04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Projector Headlights

LOL. as requested, here are one of my favorite builds i have done. a bit of a challenge, but well worth it in the end. i can not wait to see what these look like mounted onto the vehicle in question. there is a debate as to how the output will look like, and great anticipation is among quite a few of us. LOL. so with that said, here are the pix....

here's what i started with:

and here is the build:

these are using 350Z projectors and ballasts as i'm sure you could tell due to the size and shape.

and yes, i am wearing pajamies. LOL

you'd have to talk Josh about labours costs of course.
Parts wise, I bought everything off ebay:
new headlights cost me 110usd.
the 350z projectors/ ballasts cost about 250usd (i scored a sweet deal)
than (to protect my investment), I bought some x-pel headlight protective fil for 60usd
chromed 3157s set me back about 30usd.

so the total parts bill set me back 450usd. I spread out the total cost over 2 months.

i copied this from another answer in another thread, but it holds true. LOL
"all my prices are pretty much the same. you either dont help support my company and pay retail (680.00+/-), or you can do what you feel is fair to help support my company and pay only 300.00 in materials, 200.00 in labor, and 30.00 for shipping. you of course have to provide the housings to be worked on."

urban purchased his own materials, so it was harder to do a good deal of course. but he got exactly what he wanted. my prices reflect on what ( I ) get a good deal on. so if i am able to get a good deal, i pass that on to the customer. if the customer purchased their own materials, than i am un able to get any profit from my materials, and the labor goes from 200.00 to almost 300.00. not really a big jump, but it helps me move and rotate some of this that i have here. also, i dont think that 200-300 is much for labor on a 30-36 hour job and doing it solely on your spare time off of your normal 40 hour/week job. LOL

^^ exactly ... it's not like there was a huge savings buying my HID parts off
ebay over Josh. I just wanted a small projector retrofit (i was inspired by a
guy in Japan that used 90mm hellas in his WJ), and that's why I left it upon
myself to track down something off ebay..

Hmmm...

Well iv posted this on another forum to gauge interest as everyone is always bitching about better lighting options. And im going to see what I can work out for myself.

I already need new headlights(dont need them but am getting them because mine have become pitted and cloudy from mud and rocks)
And I can score some other parts for cheap.

Thanks guys.

And ill say it again, AWESOME work

Alright, so what your saying is im not supporting you if i dont buy the parts from you? Just wondering because I want to help you as much as possible.

Right now I can score the Nissan Projectors and new WJ headlights for around 220 bucks

What else do I need?

If I let you do everything using your parts how much would it cost? And would that include headlight housings? PM me if you want to.

you would need ballasts and bulbs to go along with those projectors
... it would be best to get them to josh along with the other parts
so he can fab you a direct wiring harness.

... oh and I definitely know what you mean about the pitted/ clouded
headlights. I bought my folks a 2000 WJ back in October... everything
on it was in great condition except for the oxidized headlamps - they
were pretty much the only thing that gave away the car's age. In a way,
I'm glad they looked bad because they made a perfect excuse to get in
touch with Josh.... If you do get Josh to make you some headlights
than I strongly suggest you protect your investment with some x-pel
film (they claim their film can resist a one ounce stone travelling up
to 120mph)

Yeah, there is a way to fix it, but in doing so, it takes the finish off the lights, and so you need to keep them waxed and i really dont want to deal with it.

^^^ I almost bought a complete kit off a Cadillac SRX for 150 (and that's
including the standard bulb high beam projectors), but I really wanted
the smaller 350z projector instead. Like I said earlier, I was hell-bent
on josh replicating this look:

Just a thought..

But someone who knows HID lighting better than most of us around here told me that the 350z lights wont work, and i have to say I think hes correct as I read it on 350z forums as well that the projectors use the entire reflector to work on the 350z....

Any thoughts on this?

Re: 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Projector Headlights

why wouldnt it work i dont understand? maybe the 350 has the projector an all with the reflector all in one...but you gotta fab it up....thats why its custom work lol....

heres a pic i found of a oem 350z projector...

obviously its got extra meat in there from the factory housing, you can either chop it away or just work around it...

actually if you look at the pics posted above, you can see how he mounted it an all that jazz....then he put his custom shroud around it to hide all the junk, very nice setup he made....

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

What year are those projectors paul?

I may go with them if they are 06+ as i hear they are bigger than the 350 and would work alot better...

Hopefully someone can chime in about the projectors...

This is what he says...

Quote:

the 350z uses compound optics and so without the reflector simply won't work correctly.

Re: 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Projector Headlights

well, what you have said is true to a point. basically, they will work better with the stock reflector on the sides.
these will put the same amount of light output as any other projector set up, have a nice cut off line, and also have that nice purple light output that all 350z's have. but yes, these work better in the stock headlights due to these use D2R HID bulbs, and made specifically for the 350z headlight setup.

these little projectors pack a punch when comparing the sizes of the lenses and actual projector housing. and that is what rev was looking for. that small look. plus he got one hell of a deal on ebay for them! i am never that lucky. LOL

compound shompound

Like Josh stated, don't expect a retrofit to work just as well in another vehicle;
Don't listen to what other people have to say about what works and what doesn't
either. If you want a straight up answer than talk to the expert - Josh. I bought the
exact same 350z projectors Paul posted... the same one's you're talking about,
and Josh tested them out of the reflector -- they worked great !!!!! It doesn't really
matter If I'm losing a slight amount of light output. In the end, this HID set-up will
produce a ton more light than the stock WJ headlights, the projectors will keep
things road legal, and I'm getting the overall look I wanted. So again, who cares
about anything above and beyond that point. If I wanted the most light output than
I'd look for a set of stanley projectors from a tsx, but than I'd be too broke to afford
anything else. These projectors were a great value, and they gave me the look
I wanted. I'll post cut-off pics when these headlights arrive to put your mind at
ease... hopefully, I'll have them early next week.
