This is my moms new ride, I have the priviledge to drive it around southern california for the next few weeks. I am VERY VERY impressed with how much power this car has. Personally I excpected turbo lag but this car gets up way quicker than my cobalt ss/sc EVER did. Call my crazy (which i am cause it will never happen) but GM should put THIS motor in the cobalt!!
I raced a z4 BMW and it wasn't even close, I even edged out a porshe boxter by half a car lenth, IN A 4 CYL PONTIAC!!! Never thought I'd see the day. Build quality seemed tight and solid, i know the gxp comes with diffetent shocks and suspension however. The convertible top, (manual) is very easy to put up and down.
Things I don't like:
1) Trunk space, this car has NONE with the top down, for the top takes all the space.
2) The gxp soltice has the same wheels as the base, and slight extensions on the front and rear bumpers which don't make it look much different than the standard model.
3) Im 6'2, and I can drive the car all day no problem, but still a tad more leg space would be great!!
Overall I am very impressed and give GM a thumbs up! I still prefer the styling of the sky slightly better, I know the redline sky will be just as fun! This is a great car for the money I expect GM to sell many of them!!
Awesome bro! Glad to see you're out there having so much fun.
Come back to Michigan and complain about having the top down and the trunk space though, @!#$
!
Awesome car, glad to see a real review.
Enjoy cruising the car Brett. Has been windy here lately, but I think you'll enjoy it anyway.

IBL!!
Hey dude!
Congrats on your mom and you, man! I think its main point on the GXP is the handling. I took that thing on the cones and was very composed and direct. I personally thought the engine was not as lively though. Maybe I had very high expectations. But it will get 100mph quick enough.
Between the RL Sky and GXP, you got the performer.
And I could not agree more on the lack of trunck space. lol
Happy trails!

solstice and sky are the only 2 GM vehicles I would even think about purchasing right now. Awesome cars.

Boxsters aren't that fast. They are the "I can't afford a real one" Porsche, still bad ass, but freaking slow in relative terms.
It's obviously gonna dust a J, but it's not going to give a GXP any trouble at all.
you look small in that car , in that pic
hahhaaa
and racing it already , dam how many miles you got on it ??

i was thinking the same thing. but that is good though. much better than a miata. LOL
that looks perfect! the size, the color, and to hear that the power is there too? fantastic!!!
'eh, who needs a trunk? i cant remember the last time i used mine.

I'd get the Solstice over a Cobalt anyday. I think the Colbalts are ugly IMO.

...or you have more than 1 car. Between me and my fiancee we have 1 coupe, 1 sedan, and 1 pickup truck, and she's buying an SUV this coming year. So having a 2 seater isn't that big of a deal to me, since the other vehicles each serve their purpose. The 2 seater would be strictly for fun or when it's just me or with my fiancee. But I do agree with you though on the "Backseat>2 seater." Back when I was still living in NYC and having 1 car alone is a big enough pain in the ass to deal with, I would never have more than one car. I would definitely pick something with room for more if I didn't have anything else.
As for the way the Cobalt looks I hated it the moment the first said it would be replacing the Cavalier. I think the cav looks way better. And I love the way the 03+ fires look. I would rather them bring back the Sunfire revamped in RWD and drop the same setup into it as the GXP Solstice.
<--- Although I know this would never ever happen. I think the Pontiac G5 is an absolute waste, especially with the G6 around. The Sunfire looked way more sporty than the G5, as did the Cavalier to the Cobalt.

^^^totally agree.....the 03+fires IMO are the best looking j's out......and if i do decide to purchase another vehicle, i may try to find one of them with low miles. but from a standpoint i think the solstice and saturn sky are 2 of the best vehicles gm has to offer.

I wanna see more pics, preferably of the engine bay perhaps?

...Ah, metaphysics.
Trunk Space - who cares its a 2 seat roadster not a SUV
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
id get one over a slow balt any day
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
The redline Sky is suppose to be faster drag racing, due to being able to keep the throttle wide open and not losing boost, with the automatic transmission.
those things are so damned sexy. i cant wait to graduate and get a better job because that will be the next car i buy!
all there is left to say is POST SOME MORE PICS, BITCH!

i do... with the top down they have like 2.0 cu ft of trunk space. how the hell am i gonna fit a system in 2.0 ft of trunk space and still have room for some stuff if i decide to go shopping.
what? am i not allowed to go shopping with the top down and my system booming on a nice summers day? make the trunk bigger and i would seriously consider getting a sky redline.
i still want one, but my biggest beef is the trunk space right now. hell even the miata still has like4.5 cu ft of space with the top down, and the s2000 has even more (which is due to a top that can be taken off and folded into a little compartment.
1997 RedR - ZedR
id like to know how you fit anything in the trunk of a cavalier with a system
and i mean a good one like 2 12s and 2 amps, anyone thats seen mine in its hayday will vouch for its loudness and lack of space for anything else
The sky is a roadster its not for hacking up with stupid speakers

I'd take a the looks and performance of the Solstice GXP or the Sky Redline anyday over a booming system, lol. As long as I can upgrade the rest of the speakers in the car I could care less about having a huge sub in the trunk if I had a car that looked that damn good.

I can vouch for that, lol... With my 2 12" subbox in the trunk it's pretty tight. I can throw in a bag or 2 of groceries but anything more than that goes in the back seat, lol. Plus it sucks if you forget to tie the grocery bags and things roll out and get behind the sub. For a while last year I put a little mini cooler in there in the little space let so I could use it to put things in, lol.
