We had a car at work that did that when a customer went to drive it, not quite to that extent but someone came at night and stole the rear shocks off a Jetta on the lot LMAO.

I don't know if that think is missing the shocks or not, I wouldn't think so because of the way the car stays together, its old so I'm asuming its a twist beam rear axle, with the car in the air and the suspension is unloaded, without the shocks installed there isn't much to keep the twist beam from droping and the springs form flying out..... exmaple, to replace the rear springs you put a screw jack under the side of the rear, unbolt the shock and it just drops down the springs falls out, put the new one in, raise the axle back up and bolt the shock back in and your down.

If the rear suspension is how I'm imagining it on that thing there has to be some form of shock just to keep the rear suspension form falling apart, either that or some crazzy rigging.
