Does anyone know if the front rotor go on and off on there own or are the rotors right up to the wheel bearings? The womans parents pathfinder needs brakes, I told them I'd do it as long as I don't have to clean and repack wheel bearings (really don't wanna do it in the driveway) Any info is helpful other wise I'll just pad slap it
4wd?
Edit: 4wd the rotor wouldn't just come off.

If you're doing brake pads then why even worry about the rotors and wheel bearings

I want to do pads and rotors, but if i have to mess with the wheel bearings I'm just gonna pad slap it. And I don't remember for sure but I believe its 4WD

Because just doing brake pads is half assing it IMO.
If your going to do brakes, one of the most important things to a car, do it right. Why not re-pack the wheel bearings, sure it's a little messy, but it doesn't take long. Could even replace them while you are there. Plan on replacing the rotors, or just getting them machined?
For the love of god don't half ass it man.

Wheel bearing aren't limited to just 4 wheel drives, my car has them. Technically, every car does.
Anyways, here's the setup that we are talking about:
1: Wheel seal
2: Bearing
3: Bearing race (The bearing rides in this part.)
4: This piece is the drum, but this can be substituted for a rotor.
5: Bearing race.
6: Bearing.
7: A washer type piece.
8: Honestly, not sure, never seen this piece.
9: Castle Nut. This nut is only tightened finger tight.
10. Dust cover, covers the whole assembely.
Re-packing the bearings just consists of putting new grease in them basically.
Most new cars do not have this kind of setup, just about all old ones will though. J's have a hub assembely, but wheel bearing are inside of that hub assembely, but they cannot be re-packed or replaced, the whole hub has to be replaced.
Hope this kind of helps, ask any questions if you feel I didn't cover something.
