Help find a car!
Thursday, October 12, 2006 3:23 PM
My little brother is getting his first car, he has ROUGHLY 8-10k MAX to spend on a car. It has to be a v6 or 4 cyl, and preferabbly manual.

He wants something that has a decent aftermarket on it, and god please no one say a honda.

I told him to try to find a j-body but he wants something different than me.

My car. YAY. But I am in NJ.
Tell him to go to ebay and look at a bunch of cars till he finds one that he likes.

I found my 02' Jetta GLS 1.8t for 9,999$. Look around, you should be able to find a 02-03 Jetta or Golf with 50-60k miles on it for right around his price range. Great cars, great aftermarket

tell him to find a 2000ish tacoma. the mini tacos are easy to find for under 7 grand and if you're lucky, you can find the 4x4 prerunners for around 8-9k.

GO PATS!!!

Honda.

Why not? Reliable, can find one for under 10k, lots of after market, different than your car, can be made quick for cheap, and at the same time great starter cars.

Nissan. I've always loved them. I just picked up a low milage '97 Pathfinder for 9k something after tax, title, etc.

Agreed. If he's looking for a car, this would be a great way to go. The Legacy GTs of this era are darn nice!

i would say Subaru.... 98-99 2.5 RS coupe.. YUMMY! other than that, Honda wouldnt be a bad place to start, i mean i know you said "oh god not honda" but they ARE reliable, have one of the biggest, if not THE biggest aftermarkets available, and they get good gas mileage... great first car in that price range no doubt... Miata's arent bad if u like em... theyre nice little cars, i just dont like the looks... MKII MR2's are sexy, performers, and EASY to get to go real fast for relatively cheap... some parts can be higher priced... but worth it...i have even seen some of the MKIII spyders going for below 10k all day long, low miles early 00's, i prefer the looks of the MK2s better.. but honestly.... think... having like a bright red 2001 MR2 Spyder with a black top as a first car... for under 10k... realy hard to beat that!

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

What about a 1st gen Eclipse/Talon?

They have that 4G63 (IIRC) motor...huge aftermarket

How about an 300ZX?

Insurance might be high, but you don't need to get the TT version, even NA they are still pretty torquey engines

How about a mid-90's Integra?

It's not a Honda

But really, a Honda would be a good way to go, any JDM will have a larger aftermarket.

how about a late 90's V-6 S-10 or GMC? Good aftermarket for everything ( speed / lowrider / offroading )

honestly, if it's a first car, i'd say a Toyota Corolla. better insurance rates than Hondas, less likely to be stolen, reliable, halfway decent aftermarket(depending on the year, though they're getting innovative lately). oh, and they can be had for little money. an 01/02 will sell for around 6-7k...

oh, and one last thing...check insurance rates on the vehicles in question before deciding. there's a GOOD chance that he'll crash it if it's his first car, so he might as well start as low as he possibly can.

Well, hes decided on trying to find an eclipse.

Ugh...well time to go out lookin.
