What body style is the chevrolet cobalt? Is it really replacing the chevrolet cavalier?

Re: Cobalts

It can be considered as a replacement, since it comes in 2 and 4 door models, and the SS could be a revamped overhauled version of the Z24. (I'm not comparing the two, just simply putting trim levels)

Not for sure on the "body" letter tho, I'll do some research..unless anyone else knows?

it's on the Delta platform...no letter designation. yes, it's a replacement for the Cavalier. you're both about a year late on the information that was posted all over this site when the car was first released.

Well you gotta wonder about the question. I mean, it's fairly obvious that the Cavalier is no longer built and the Cobalt is Chevrolet's small car. Simply by visiting www.chevy.com Not only that, the Cavalier has been out of production for almost 2 years now while they've built the Cobalt. Finding out that it's built on the Delta platform would take a little more research, sure but a quick search would have yielded that info as well. Not that the question shouldn't be answered politely because the information was obvious or easily found, but the phrase "living under a rock" comes to mind.

I thought we were in the year 2006, But after reading the first couple of posts I think that it is 2004.

Cobalts are A-bodys. There is a letter designation. It is the 4th digit of the vin number.

Re: Cobalts

WRONG. No new chassis are being given letter designations; GM is now going by the greek alphabet. G6/ Aura/malibu = Epsilon, solstice/sky = Kappa, new comaro = Zeta, new crossovers = Lambda, Cobalt = DELTA.

I think what he is saying is that there is no Delta character availabe to be imprinted as a VIN, so GM uses the letter A to designate Delta? I dunno though, I have no proof to validate that.

Which is still correct and incorrect because GM already had an A-body on the old Celebrity/Century cars.

It's just a letter, it does not designate an A-body at all.

GM uses the term "architecture" with a Greek letter to signify a set of common components, performance characteristics, a common manufacturing process, a range of dimensions and connecting points for key component systems.
But yes, internally and the dealers will/may call it a A-body as the "technical name."
Also, there was a statement from GM that Lutz wanted to not use the Greek alphabet anymore.

In fact, HHR's are considered A-bodys too. Same platform.

Of course in the US. Infact Cobalt's are smaller then their predecessors. There is a Cobalt that just BARELY made it into the compact class.
