I have another which one to get question. I went and looked at two vehicles today. The first one was a 2001 Tiburon with 62k miles auto the dealership is asking $7k.
Second car was a 2001 Eclipse auto with 92k miles asking $8k.
I like both cars. Both were nothing special just base. Power locks and windows. The Eclipse had a powered sunroof the tib didn't. The tib had cruise control which the eclipse didn't.
What do you think
nether you can do better for the same price ... look into GTP's sounds right up your alley
I guess I didn't mention that around here it's kind of hard to find a good car for cheap like some people can. This price for around here is about right. I don't want anything big which a GTP is to me. I'm a little guy 5'7 130lbs. That's why I am looking at smaller cars.
i personally like the eclipse... my sister had an 01 sebring (95% the same car) and it was nice, i liked it a lot
Would the extra 30k miles for the same year make a difference?
well, I wouldn't go for that eclipse, it costs more and has more miles. Around where I live, I could probably find a V6 eclipse for $8000 with 90K miles, so you should definitely be able to find a decent 4-cylinder for around $8K where you live
The 01 tib isn't bad.. It is the smaller uglier version but if it has the 2.0 in it that is a good motor to mod. The 1.8 ehh that was the econo box motor still strong but not a whole lot of mods from what I could tell.

Had to change sig because some dickhead is mad it went 1 letter over size
it does have the 2.0. I'm leaning more towards the tib. i've been thinking about it all night.
hrmmm. i wouldnt pick either. just wait around a little more and im sure something better will pop up.
or you could just go 2 years older on the eclipe and get a turbo dsm. if u wanna do all the work with it tho.
i'm baaaaack!!

A Turbo Eclipse in decent shape is a little more difficult to find..

Talk them down to around $5500-6000 on the Tib and that's not too bad. $8000 for a 3rd gen Eclipse with 90,000+ miles seems high.

Sold 2/2/05
go tib all the way......better response to mods and a shaper looking car.

The 01 was the funny shaped one with more lights on the front end then a UFO.

I stopped by the dealership today and told them that I wanted an alignment and balance/rotation byt the time I get there at about 4 to drive it again. Yesterday when I drove it, the stearing wheel shook so I just assumed. So hopefully they can get that done by the time I go there today to test drive it. If it drives better I might end up getting it.
I'll try to talk them down to 6k for it. Whcih means I sell my car for about 3000-3500 I wont have much to pay off on it. And yes i'm sure I could get that much out of my cavalier.
hmm I dont know i would go for the eclipse. since it looks better (IMO), and the tibby seems too expensive, those usually go for like 5k. What model is the eclipse? spyder? gt? I got an 01 spyder (4 cyl) for 8500 with 95k miles. the coupes were running for like 6k. so look into that
The eclipse is a GS. Nothing to special. Sunroof is really the only thing that is going for it. Some minor scratches and dings. 92k miles
The tiburon. As far as the exterior goes, I was looking at it closely today and didn't notice a single scratch or dent on it. The interior is also very clean as well. No smell or nothing. It is an all around nice clean car.
i retract my previous statement.
Hmm... I'd say Tiburon simply because the engine is pretty upgradeable, and for that car it's a good balance of performance and economy if you don't want a ton of power, just a little pep when you need it. I drove one when they were new and I was impressed with the performance and handling. I tend to be biased toward Mitsu's - member of the VR4 club, my aunt is the GM at the local dealer, everyone in my family owns or has owned more Mitsu's than you can shake a stick at - but I've never been a fan of the 3rd Gen Eclipse. My buddy's girlfriend has a GT and I like it, it's pretty quick - but they're a bit too heavy for the 4cyl engine I think. They jsut don't seem to have much life in them when you get on the gas. Maybe it's jsut me. Given my bias toward teh Mitsu's, I still say Tibby.
One thing I know the tib would need to be done is to have the timing chain replaced. I have read and a few friends have told me that at around 60k miles they seem to go. I asked the dealership if they know if it had been replaced and they dind't know. Should I tell them to replace it before I get it or what? How do I approach them about it face to face.
well, any car that has a timing belt is gonna need it replaced at 60K miles, that's just life. how to approach them - tell them you really want the car, but won't buy it unless the timing belt/chain is replaced. If they can't include that in the price of the car, it's probably not worth your time buying from them.
Neither.
Jesus Christ are those cack cars.
You can buy a lot of cars, nicer cars, for 7K.
