Ok, here's the question(s). A friend of mine just got a good condition Riviera Out from some old lady that owned it. Only 30k miles. Its a 3800 SC engine. 220 hp. The question is, is the 3800 Series II SC a direct swap to this engine? And if so, does it make this car more powerful, or is it identical to the stock one?

The series I ran an M62 instead of the M90 that was found on the later Series II motors. Mating a series II to the regular 4T60E that came in those cars (3800SC/I) would destroy it in a nasty fashon. Best bet is to find a complete 3800SC/II and 4T65E-HD to swap in.

Or, I wouldn't bother personally.

Can i ask why it would be bad?

From what ive read so far on google, The series II charger is a standard on the 1996 and 1997 sc optioned engines. I have seen no mention why it wouldnt be a direct swap, and why it wouldnt work.

It would be a direct (almost) swap. The Eaton M90 was introduced in 1997 with the redesign of the Grand Prix.

I didn't say it wouldn't work, I said it'd be a bad idea utilizing the stock transmission.

My apologies, i know very little about the car. His tranny seems shot anyway, we are gonna replace it.

I think the riv has the same trans as my car because there the same thing (both G-bodys) the only diffrence is the Riv is a 2 door and dosent have the 4.0 V8.

ill make a post on my aurora forum and see what somes up, cause alot of the members have also owned a Riv.

Ty, thank you.

Can you also see if there is a differance between the tb and intake manifold between the 2 types of superchargers?

Another option I've read of (never seen in person) is swapping in a Cadillac 4.3L Northstar & Trans into the car. More HP, same weight, better fuel economy (If I remember correctly).

And now for something completely different... Click the Minister.

The Riv's and there 3.8l used the 4T60-E or the 4T60-E HD if it was supercharged. After MY 1997, the 4T65-E was introduced. ,
and GAM, the 4.0 and 4.9 N*s have a 4T80-E Trans, and that trans was ONLY used on the N*engines. and a swap would work just swap over a whole subframe with engine and trans from a aurora or a deville, and the ECM,Exaust, and other wiring and such(LOTS!!!!!) and it would work.

If I recall correctly, Buick was going to offer the 4.0 Aurora V8 in the Riviera but cancelled at the last minute in order to cut costs.

I'd love to see a Riv with the Aurora v8 and a stick in it
