Not really a J body but a J-body motor

I was wondering if anyone has ever swapped in a ecotec engine into a older truck. I have recently gotten a 96 sonoma 5 speed with the 2.2 motor and the motor is pretty much shot I was going to swap in another 2.2 but I was wondering if anyone has swapped in a ecotec into once of these and if so what was involved?

I know the ecotec has a lot more potential and I would rather build up on that. I know I could swap in a v8 and be done but i would feel dirty driving a v8 I am a 4cyl type of person and would have more fun making a 4cyl go fast.

Thanks in advance
Craig

I don't know what to think. I had a 1994 S10 with a throttle-body injected V6. It made only 150hp, and had more torque than a 2.4L Quad engine. It was still a turd. Until you seriously upgraded the 2.4L eco, it'd still be a turd.

I know Chevy sells hopped up 4.3L V6's that make 250-300hp. Why not use one of those? Or get the 190HP V6 and use that?

Basiclly if you have the 4cyl s10 the v8 is cheaper/= any other motor. Unless of course your motor is blown and your just swapping factory engines.

You however, arent doing that. First off all, J's engines are for a FWD car. So your better off either rebuilding your engine to put out some more power, swapping in a 6 from the chevys or putting in the V8. Also youll find alot more help on s10forum.com in the engine swap section

you can get Quad 4 RWD conversion parts from www.mantapart.com, as for the ECO id like to see it done using the Colorado/ Canyon manual trans. (Same as the one in the Solstice.)
