Hey all, the other night the transfer case in my girlfriends 1994 1500 silverado blew up, literally the housing was shattered. I was looking around and I found them to be not so cheap to replace. My question is, is there a 2 wheel drive moel of the same pickup, with the 5.7L v8 that i can get a driveshaft from and take out the old x4 transfer case and run the truck as 2wd?
Chevy is pretty good about stuff being interchangeable. If you used the whole rear end out of a truck with the drive shaft from a 2wd you should have no problem what so ever. Should drop right out and right back in. Plus a truck rear end shouldn't run you much at all.

Thats what I was thinking, just a longer driveshaft, ill look more into it on monday, my day off. thanks for the help tho, its appreciated
Just getting a 2wd driveshaft wont work. Once you get under there and take off the x-case you'll see why. I know on the newer trucks they have 2wd and 4x4 trannys, the output shaft being the main difference. Again, I'm not totally sure about the older chevy trucks, but I'm sure its almost the same and that once you get under there and take off the x-case you'll see why its not going to work.
You just need the tailshaft adapter for the rear of the transmission, the longer driveshaft, and sometimes a crossmember with a carrier bearing for the driveshaft. That's it.
^^^ thats what I was thinking. But if the 2wd and 4x4 transmissions have the different sized output shafts like on the newer ones hes screwed.
