Yesterday I received the September edition of Car and Driver. It was about Z06 vs F430 vs 911 Turbo. And since you know this is C&D so you know where they placed the Vette lol.
But here on their article they wrote as if they wanted it in a better category. Meh w/e.
But what really impressed me and made me do a thread about it was the performance of the Z06 vs 911 Turbo section.
First the number for the 3.

Well the point of the thread was to show what a performer the Z06 is to cars that cost 2x, 3x the price. I initially thought the 2007 911 Turbo was going to beat the Z06 in straitline-performance, because the there is no loss of traction of its AWD and being the engine in the back and all and the z06 being a handful for the RWD, but no, they were neck and neck with a slight edge for the Z06.
One thing though, upon my calculations I have said it numerous times that the Z06 is now capable of over 200mphs (higher redline, taller 5th, 505HP, CD 0.32 with good down-force) but here they saw 207 mph (p.56) on the Autobahn. That is Lamborghini Murcielago territory.
Ferrari I would have if I crap money and I wanted to show the world that I have money. But the Z06 is the car most performance for the money, and makes the most logical sense and IMO does it ever look beautiful too.

Bah, true tests for Ferrari's should run Pirellis not Bridgestones, IIRC corectly, thats what C and D as well as Top Gear ran. Which is only fair cause they come from the factory that way, but.
I wrote this post a long time ago, a real long time ago, back in 94.
^Yhea true maybe. But the Bridgestone Potenza REO50A are nothing to sneeze at. I've driven these tires on a 2006 BMW 330i very hard while track testing the car. Let me tell you, the tire held their composure and did not protest at all.

Yes, actually.

^How does it do 2mph less and still make the same time? I'm sure that the 2mph doesn't make that much of a difference. Did they list anything about the weight of each vehicle? It'd be better if we had a hp/lb comparison.

i saw z06,911, and 430 and for some reason i actually asked myself: why would they put a ford truck up against a z06 and a 911......then i realized it was a 430 not 450......dumbass

The new Z06 OWNS. I had such a bast driving one for a day. (And beating a 360 modena in so cal badly!)
Makes my C5 seem SLOW. Seriously that ls7 is a Beast.
Well, since nobody brang it up. Id wait to see what the Porsche GT2 has to offer. It will be lighter, since it is only RWD. Seriously though, lose the AWD, and it will be faster than the z06.

^ I think you mean the GT3. Porche says that the GT3 will weigh in close to the base Carrera 2... 3250lbs. Now will the GT3 be faster then the Turbo? Chances are no from zero in a strait line. Why? Traction w/ AWD is unprecedented, then we have the issue of power. Turbo 911 makes 480HP and up to 502 ft-lbs of torque. GT3 will make 415HP and approx 300-350 ft-lbs of torque. The weight saving is not sufficient to weigh the power and traction of the AWD.
Now in a road course with a race car driver, I can almost guarantee the GT3 will be faster then the Turbo.
With all this being said, the GT3 does not have a better chance then the Turbo in beating the Z06. Maybe the upcoming Turbo "S" will have a stronger chance in beating Z06, but then the Turbo S would face the "Sting-Ray" Vette and then we are right back where we started.

Actually, I was talking about the Gt2. Im numerious test, the old 911 style gt2 vs turbo has defeted it in the 1/2 mile. I know the gt2 is 11.9 ... but I think the turbo was early 12s (maybe 12.3). Im sure the GT2 wont have a problem with the stingray.
Also, why didnt they do the Ford GT??

lol GT2 would have even more trouble then the GT3 going up against C6 Z06. As for the LS9 powered Sting ray vs a GT2 or GT3? Well, we all know what would happen.
I am figuring the Sting Ray would be more in line with the Carrera GT in performance.

Discontinued. Along with the Carrera GT.

We will just have to see when the gt2 comes out. Thats all, but I can almost assure you that the gt2 will put out more psi, better aerodynamics, a more 50/50 split, alot more traction to the rear wheels and well over 500hp.

I dont know why you keep bringing that video up, the z06 is NOT STOCK!! But the ford gt IS!! For instance, if you take a stock 2200 engine vs a 2200 engine, with a intake and a tune, who do you think is going to win? THE ONE WITH THE MODS!!

Ok, I lied ....
Maybe you should tell everybody that Ferrari won the competition. They had 199 points, Porsche had 198 ... and I think that the vette had 193 (or somewhere near). Looks like speed doesn't make it the best car eh?
dan
^^ I completely agree ... but when it comes to pure speed and that is the only thing that you are going to use it for. Then the z06 would be your best coice. But with the ferrari and porsche, you also have luxury, styling and longevity. Im not saying that the vette doesnt have any of those, but Porsche and Ferrari pay alot more attention to detail, since they are pretty much hand made. To where I seriously dont think that GM really cares too much about the little details. They just want american muscle and hope that americans and other countries want the same.
Basically, what im trying to say is that performance doesnt determind the needs of a user. I highly doubt that a guy in his mid to late 40s is going to just use the car for the track. I only say that age, because around here in Michigan ... I dont see anybody younger driving one of them.
dan
Yeppers.
IMO the Z06 only needs is some real good seats, like you'd find in the Viper. The rest i think is perfectly laid out with good materials. I would have saved money on the C6's electric door latch and used it somewhere else in the interior. Yhea, it may not have the fancy carbon fiber or aluminum trim. But the plastics used on the C6 is not too bad and it is on par with cars costing way more. Now on the C5 it was not to good, trust me.

I don't think that is totally true. If you are looking at these high caliber cars, your intent is not for a Sunday cruiser, but rather performance. If someone likes luxury with a touch of performance, they would look for a Grand Tourer, not these.

At Car and Driver, comparos like this are to pick which car is best overall. Yes, maybe the Z06 was a little bit faster but the Ferrari is a nicer car overall. Hence the F430 wins over the Vette.
The editors get a lot of flak about their picks, but, they've driven the cars and you haven't. These guys don't just pick out ranking orders, they do actually consider the merits of each car and discuss it before picking an order.
I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.
