I'm stuck in the middle of a decision here and I was just wondering what everybody thinks would be a better car overall for the money. The 300zx is $4500, the Stang is $5000. They're both auto's, about 100,000 miles on both. The Stang is in a little bit better condition body-wise. I'm thinking the mustang, but I want some other opinions.
Is the Z turbo? I'm assuming not. If the Z is N/A, I would say go with the Rustang.

How about a little more info. Manual or automatic? Turbo or N/A Z? What is wrong with the body? ect.
I personally don't care for mustangs at all, so I would go with the Z car unless it was a total pile.

yeah that year z looks way better than that year mustang
convert, hatch, notch, GT, LX, help me out here
if you are out for speed, go with the stang. there are many 12sec bolt-on only foxes running around. and regaurdless of what people say, with a few sus tweaks, they handle awsome
for the 300z, I am going to guess that for $4500 and an auto trans you got the n/a one. there not bad looking cars but the non turbo cars are slower than you think

I'm fully a chevy guy, but i have a soft spot for Fox body Rustangs.
And they can be made really quick really inexpensively.
Oh, and 351W swaps are easy and can have huge gains.
I guess you have an idea what my opinion is.
Yea, the 300zx is N/A and a 2 seater, not the 2+2. It needs a little paint work on the lower part of the car, but nothing bad, and theres no rust so thats fine. The Mustang is a GT, hatch. Its pretty clean too, no real work needed on it. But I just found out that I can get the 300zx for $3500 and I'm gonna go with that. Plus, the 300zx will definitley feel fast compared to my OHV that I drive now.
and the stang will make the 300z feel slow, I can assure you that

I agree, my brother had a '92 5.0 notchback, I used to love driving that thing.
Good choice. I'm a big fan of the 300Zs. Plus the 80's style Mustangs (glorified Escorts) should have never been made. Be sure to post pics when you get the Z. Those have a straight 6, right?

what....no, dohc v6. it was either 3.0 or 3.3 I forget
I would only go NEAR one of those 300z's if it had the twin turbos, otherwise, its a waste. but I guess everyone gets thier own opinion

Mustang... it's a GT, and it's faster.
The 300zx's have a 3.0 dohc v6. It's gonna be a daily driver so I went witht he 300z. But by next summer I'll definetly have a fox body stang. I'm probably just gonna do a few things to the zx, fix it up and sell it since I'm getting it for so cheap. Thanks for all the opinions though.

Your right :rolls eyes
You do realize the 80's/early 90's 5.0 is one of the most popular motors/styles to mod...EVER...right?!?!
Glorified escort????
Youre an idiot.
RE Audio
Definitely go with the Mustake
For the money you'd have more fun and it would be better spent there.
ZX is the best choice. it's only real hiccup is it's a bank account draining experience to do ANY repairs underhood. But the Mustang will drain your bank account juat as fast with the uber-thirsty 5.0. so either way you'll get wacked in the wallet. Just the Z gives you one thing the 'Stang can't (handling). where it lacks in speed it gains in the ability to turn.

both of those cars are WAY to much. n/a 300zx's in my opinion are a waste of metal. youll kick yourself in the ass for years wishing you got the turbo.
and ive seen 5.0's go for 1k-2k every day. and in good condition.

have you EVER owned one yourself......obviously not. if you stick with the stock cam and 3.55 or taller gears you will get 24+mpg hyway and never measured but not so bad city. the 5.0 has so much more low end tq over the 3.0 that you can hang out lower in the rev range for crusing hence better milage.
besides they are mad cheap to mod. 5.0 mag did an article one time, they called it 12's for $1200. needless to say they were poleny sucsessful in thier attempt
as for the handling, check the scca american iron series, or just scca in general. foxes are all over it. f-bods and mustangs get a bad rap for not being able to handle cause to many people pick them up thinking they can just whip the wheel around like its a civic. there is more involved than just whipping the wheel and going "WEEEEEEEEE". if you take the time to learn these cars you will find they can handle way better than you think.

I've had a few friends back home in so cal who had the turbo z's, and they had nothing but reliability problems with their's. Im not sure how much added strain the turbo's add that motor but even thought 5.0's have their share of problems I would still feel with that mileage that the Ford would be less of a 'money pit' so to speak.
For that money you could get a c4 corvette, look in the autotrader, you'd be surprised.
Best of luck on your decision.
Go with the Fox body stang! Huge aftermarket out there for the stang.
"Remember do what you like because you have to drive it."--Me
Deffinately stang bro! 300zx are CRAP to work on and upgrade performance wise unless you can do the engine pulling and installs yourself. Me and my friend thought we found gold on a barely abused 300 from a middle-aged woman who got it from her divorce. It was a 93/94 TT convert and awwww it was sexy. When we first pulled the engine just to upgrade the stocker turbo's and install new IC pipes/wastegate/BOV's/Misc it was easily the last time we wanted to do it again.
Sold the car for about $3600 over what he got it for though so we didn't complain! I think the TT was swapped into there because I haven't heard of much TT verts in those cars!
