Well, I finally got the RX-7 I was talking about a while ago home.
Funny story actually. The guy who gave it to me jacked the tranny up. So it was stored at a lot where you can store campers, cars, trailers, boats etc.. So I took my explorer and a buddy with a tow strap and we were going to tow it home. No biggy its a small road all the way home and its like 8-10 miles. We get there and the tranny will not go into neutral at all. No big deal. We'll ride with the clutch in. Nope no clutch what so ever. So I try and pull it anyways to see if the wheels will turn anyways because the tranny is jacked. Well they do so we tow it out of the lot.
I get out to close the gate and my buddy tells me he can hear it whining like its in gear. We both agree screw it if it messes up the tranny who cares its shot to hell. So we start towing and I get up to about 30 when the back left wheel decides to completely lock up on us. Sending the car completely sideways laying up a nice rubber mark and a ton of smoke. I can see my buddy in the rear view mirror counter steering and freaking out. We came to a stop ok with no damage. My buddy looks at me and I ask if he's ok and he nods. Then we both started busted out laughing.
So, we had to disconnect the drive shaft so we could tow it home. Well on with the pictures.
The body is really straight and rust free. The top is in really good condition also. The paint is faded on the rear on the trunk lid, but its a pretty flat surface so should be really easy to fix. The inside is in real good shape also. The seats need replaced and the door panel is off. I have it in the trunk in perfect shape its just taken off. I think he had to fix the door.
I thought about gutting it and making it a track car with a carbed SBC in it. I thought about replacing the tranny and just selling it. Then my wife decided after complaining soooo much about it that she really liked it. So were going to make it a project car together. Were going to decide if we want to drop a small block V8 in it or if we want to drop a 13B turbo in it. Were going to do it together though. I'll probably start a progress thread on it if anyone wants to keep up on it.
Schweet! Yes.... start a progress thread as I would like to see when it finished.
Haha, it will be a while before its even close to finished. Should be better now though. I have a second job to support my habbit...errr hobby.
i cant recall ever seeing an rx7 convertible before
My dad gad one like that, and the previous gen as well.
Looks like the body is in great shape. Good find. You don't see the drop tops that much. Hell, you don't see the hardtops that much either TBH.
When you say "GAVE TO ME", does that imply that you recieved this car at no charge to you? Just wondering, cause a good shell could still fetch a price and it would seem that you made out pretty damn good.

there are plenty out there, but many sit in garages/lots collecting dust. i have a friend who drives a turbo II vert daily, another friend with a convertible FB(gorgeous car...), and a third with a 3-rotor convertible FC.
to the OP - not bad.

you know, i love when people like to criticize others about their behavior,
but turn around and do the same freaking thing months later...
Yea, you dont see many RX-7's out on the road. You really dont see many drop tops. I haven't seen any around here. They're out there but like stated, not many clean ones.
RaiLs, yes when I say "gave" I really mean a friend of mine gave me the car for free. I have the clean title and all.
The more and more I think about it the more I want to keep it a rotary and just drop a turbo engine in it. It'll be easier to spend money on a project that my wife wants to spend money on too, haha.
Get a 13BT!!!!

hope you didnt seize the motor towing it , with the trans in gear it was turning the motor over
looks pretty clean , and being from cali the verts are hard to find , production #'s for the verts has to be very low
I remember before I got my Camaro I was looking for an RX-7 just like that.... they are awesome little cars.
It also looks like a friggin dog chewed off the belt. I noticed there was no belt and then saw what looks like the water pump in the bottom left corner of that engine picture and it looks all chewed up.
Very good score though. I don't know how somebody could let a car get THAT bad, but I guess some people just don't care.
theres a red convertible for sale for 3650 by me
LOL, well theres also a kinda funny storry about the belts. See, we knew the engine was turning and could possibly jack it up. I didn't really care though because either a 13BT or a small block v8 is going in. The wheels were turning and then barely locking up. So we needed just a little more to get it to tow real slow. So as kind of a last ditch effort/i'mpissed off/pray to god it just might work. We decided to take the belts off. Well I didn't have any tools. Just jumper cables. So I used the edge with the teeth on it of the jumper cables to cut it. Yea, it didn't work and was pretty dumb but hey. I was hoping that the engine would turn over a little easier.
you'd be surprise how little weight you add by dropping in an ls1

IIRC an LS1 is lighter than a 13b.
I wrote this post a long time ago, a real long time ago, back in 94.
Apparently the total LS1/T-56 swap comes in around ~+25 to 50 pounds difference.
me thinks you could get that 50lbs back through basic weight reduction. and for the power and tq difference
