I posted a thread about a mustang i was in the process of buying, but that fell through and i got this camaro instead
so
im repostin a new thread
I bought an '82 camaro, z28, for $1500 from a guy northeast of monouth
Its an automatic trans (*sigh*), 350 V8,
the car was originally gold, however the previous owner painted it....purple
Tranny was rebuilt less than 1500 miles ago, new exhaust w/flowmaster 40 series muffler
T-tops and relatively intact interior, but the guy started a color change with it and didnt finish
heres a short clip of what she sounds like:

It's not easy finding a 350 5spd. Majority of the 5 spds were 305's.

Thats because they never mated a 3rd gen 5-speed to a 350 from the factory.

I think they did it in Canada, if I am not mistaken. I coudll swear I read that somewhere. They filter down to the US too. I used to research that stuff when I had my '86 TA. It's been a while, so I don't know.

well at least parts are cheap and plentiful

Are you sure that it's a z28? it looks like a regular camaro with a z28 hood on it(crossfire). Non z28 bumpers and no side skirts...

Their never was a 350 5 speed produced ever. Unless you want to include 91-92 firehawks that were special order and custom built, but that's from slp and not gm.

I'm pretty sure they weren't in Canada either...

Good snag man.. I picked up an 84 Z 2 years ago for a couple hundred with a 305/auto tranny and i'm in the process of stripping her all the way down. I'm working on getting either a 400 or i'm going to build a 383 stroker. She has some rust but i think i can handle it. Its gotta be all braced anyways. Watch those t-tops, they'll pop under hard launches.

That's what I was gonna say.

TOO many mismatched parts, I don't know if it's a normal Camaro or a z28.

Also, NEVER believe a seller when they say it's a 350. Always run the code on the block just to make sure.

Quote:

Did 350 TPI (L98) cars ever come with a Manual? Were there 350's before 87?

The answer is no to both. There was never a factory production 350 TPI Third Gen with a manual. Not a 1LE, not a Special Edition, nothing. It was only available with the 700-R4 Auto because of concerns about the T-5 not being able to handle the L98's Torque, especially if driven aggressively. Cost, certification, and possibly the Corvette (having to be faster) were also reasons that this never happened.

So, if you think you have one, you don't! If you think you've seen one, you haven't! (stock of course ) There were test cars, but test cars never make it to the public. Anything that says different is incorrect misinformation. You can check if you like.

8th digit of VIN:

350: 8
305: F

Transmission RPO:

Auto 700-R4: MXO
Manual T-5: MM5

There was also never a 350 TPI F-Body before 87. There were test cars but they too never made it to the public. 87 was the first year for the 350 in the Third Gen F-Body and was the official release.

there you go

It looks like a Berlinetta camaro to me. Which was a 6 cylinder car. I believe some came with a 305.

im here.

and the t tops just dont pop out, the frame twists if u put slicks on it and dont support the frame properly, then they pop out.

^^^ Yea, which is why everyone suggest sub frame connectors as a good mod. Its real bad in T-Tops but a big issue even with the regular hard tops. I've heard of people cracking dashes and windshield due to the frame twisting like Borsty said.

Mine were so rusted on my TA that they felt like they would pop out everytime I did a car wash!

I learned real quick not to go in a high pressure, brushless carwash!

i dont think i would put slicks on my car anyways

Thats exactly why I didn't want T-Tops. I've heard too many people complain about leaks and twisting. Just too much hassle for what its worth. I know its way worse but I think the verts look pretty sweet. Dont want to jack this guys thread though.

Whats with the long ass red hose?

Re: 1982 Camaro Z28
Sunday, July 09, 2006 7:08 PM
thats a coolant hose thats going from the water pump to a coolant hole in the intake.

i have no idea why its 4 feet long and wrapped around the strut tower, that would take 5 minutes to fix/clean up

Thanks Borsty but I didn't mean "What is it" lol I knew it was a coolant hose. Just curious why it was 4feet long, lol.

Re: 1982 Camaro Z28
Sunday, July 09, 2006 11:31 PM
Isn't that 2 hoses?! Both going to the heater core.

Re: 1982 Camaro Z28
Sunday, July 09, 2006 11:38 PM
Yeah thats what i was wondering... why the hell its that long and hes got two hoses connected together
also it looks like he tried to do some painting in there but decided he would tape off anything or take it out, because stuff like the coolant reservior (sp?) and the spark plug wires, plus that hose itself have black paint all over them
what a lazy b@st@rd, but i cant say i really care THAT much...
but when he swapped the engine id have to say he didnt bother with a lot of sh!t, like putting back the windsheild wiper fluid tank, and i dont even know if the horn is in the car, but i havent really paid much attention, but it doesnt work... when i got it the headlights didnt work and neither did the turn signals but i think that was just a matter of almost no fuses in the car...
lazy F*&#er, but shes mine now, and id say shes in good hands

yeah, thanks for "not" jackin my thread...
lol, jk, i dont really care, but whatever ya know
