so my buddy picked up a 2000 ls1 for 7k at a police auction... his dad had connections. they took all the electronics out of it and left the cage. it was a police state trooper... had about 90k on it. idk what was done to it... opend the hood.. looked stock... it pulled hard. idk if the rear end gears were stock as well. they were a bit tall but they redlined pretty quick and it was an auto.
so my 1st encounter in a ls1..... that lil bastard @!#$s and gets quick.. specially for a 3000 lb+ car.....
so to the many poeple that have ls1's. my questions are.
1) what yall pay for insurence on yours?
2.) any weak links besides the stock rear?
3) price?
I like my LS2 and IRS better than the F-body's LS1 and live axle

Nothing major I have heard about besides the rear.
Although, changing plugs and working on the engine isn't the easiest. I like mine and it runs great. Put down 342rwhp with a cat-back, intake and pulley. Not bad if you ask me.

Yeah they are fun cars, I love mine. It seems some people get lucky with the rears. If you pick up an auto chances are the rear will hold up to more power because they are easier on the 10 bolt. As for other problem the 98s to 00s had the crapier hydraulic components for the clutch if you gert a manual. If i were you i would look at getting an 01 or 02 as they already have an ls6 intake manifold and a better hydraulic system (if you get a manual).

price is something your going to have to figure out yourself, seeing its a cop model and e cant tell how beaten on its been we cant give you an accurate price.

The better answer is; not to sound rude, but you do the research. Depending on your area, how much you drive, record, coverage, etc, will determine your rate.
For me on the Z06 it was $70 more then my Sunfire GT. Around $580, 510 respectively every six months... Allstate.
Also the police package on the F-body has nothing really special. Just extra wires for lightbar and computer and a power steering cooler, other then that, all the same.
And yes the F-bodies are soooo much fun. RWD, V8.... Oh yhea!

my buddy owns a 2002 camaro SS 6spd with (i think SLP package) its lowered intake . . . .he just put on borla cat-back on it
its very nice car and fast, borla is very loud

eh, i drove a '00 LS1 T/A a couple weeks ago, and wasnt too impressed. i mean, it was fun with the RWD, but it didnt have much more power than the GTP. grant it, the GP's not stock, and the T/A was stock and an auto. i think there was something wrong with it, too. still man, while i was driving around in it, it rode nice, interior was (IMO) nice. just an awesome car.

You have a strut tower brace?? If so, make sure you are careful when you put it back on. Those prothane mounts raised my motor and I was hitting the STB.
