is it a myth or truth that in some states you can bring a new car back and "return it" , no questions asked within 3 days?

The dealership is under no obligation to take the car back if all the papers have been signed and filed. Unless there is some weird law like in Cali where you can return a car withing 2 days of purchase.

If your experiencing buyers remorse call the dealer and see if there willing to work something out with you.

It all depends on your state. In MD you have 3 days to change your mind on what the state considers a large purchase. Like a house, not sure if you can take back a car though.

I thought that most states, if not all, have a three day "cooling off period" wherein you can cancel any contract you sign and not be liable. I would assume that this includes cars, you sign on the dotted line for them. Please keep in mind, everything I know about the law I learned from Denny Crane.

All states have a 3-day recision on large financial transactions. Trust me, I handle mortgages and refinances and that sort of thing on a daily basis. But as far as cars go, some (not many) states do have a 3-day recision on vehicle purchases. This would state that by law you have three days to return a car from the date of purchase. However if your state allows this, you will likely get resale value for the vehicle. Given that resale value drops like a lead balloon once the vehicle is drivenn off the lot, you're better off finding a private buyer. Most states even give you one day unless you're doing a 24-hour test drive program, and that is something worked out between you and the dealer.

Best way to find out is call a bank or a dealer in your area and ask them.
