I took one of these surveys for my MZ3, I'm not that impressed with the initial quality, apparantly other people weren't also.

But, on a different note, both of my parents (Dad has a 2005 Tacoma X-Runner, Mom has a 2005 Corolla XRS) have been back to the service center many times. They havn't had much luck with Toyota. My dad for a squeaky/noisy clutch noise, and my mom for problems with her A/C dash vents.

The only thing that has really pissed me off about my car is an annoying rattle in the rear deck.

What blows me away is that a Pontiac took large car highest ranking...

Not that a Pontiac couldn't, but usually those things go to Toyota or Ford or anybody else than a GM product.

^^It should not be a surprise. That model carries the 3800 V6. In the past, GM models that carried that engine also scored very high in quality studies. 3800 V6 is probably the most reliable engine in GM's line up-- bulletproof.

Man, Hyundai has stepped up ALOT past few years. They are in alot of the catergories... I just remember telling people to watch for Hyundai a few years ago and they laughed at me and said they are one of the worst car company and will always be. I'll have to show them this report.

From the Toronto Sun.

Doomed GM plant tops quality list

A General Motors plant in Oshawa slated to close in 2008 has been named the top plant in the western hemisphere for initial quality for the second straight year.

Yesterday the Oshawa No. 2 car plant won the prestigious J.D. Power & Associates Gold Award for producing fewer quality problems than 84 other eligible North and South American car and truck plants surveyed.

PRODUCTIVE FACILITY

The same Oshawa plant -- which builds the Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Allure/Lacrosse -- was honoured last week as the second-most productive facility in North America.

"This is a remarkable accomplishment for all of our employees," said Michael Grimaldi, President of General Motors Canada.

The Oshawa No. 2 plant is scheduled to cease production in 2008, eliminating 2,750 jobs. The cuts are part of a restructuring plan GM announced in November that calls for 30,000 jobs to be shed across North America.

PHASE OUT

The vehicles being built at the No. 2 plant are slated to be phased out in 2008 and no replacement models have been lined up.

In addition to overall honours for the Oshawa No. 2 plant, GM picked up top segment awards for the Grand Prix for large car and the Chevrolet Silverado LD for large pickup.

I know GM isn't saying it but I think Oshawa No. 2 plant is in the Running for the RWD Zetta.

And dont forget they own Scion

xA was third in Sub Compact Car (3rd year of production), and the tC was 3rd in Compact Sporty Car (2nd year of production).

Although it baffles me that both of these cars were ranked, the only one in their lineup not ranked is the xB, but yet they still had 140 problems per 100 vehicle. (although, they are only 3 years into their brand, so to take 2 spots in top 3 categories is not bad)

too bad GM can't have the same quality in their cars as they have in the trucks. truck category was two trim levels of the silverado and the sierra in third.

GO PATS!!!

Don't worry, that I6 in your Jeep will be around much longer than anybody can even remember this IQS list existed.

whats so different from this one as opposed to the past that you cant compare them?
it seems that inifinity, nissan, jaguar and porshe all jumped quite a bit
yet a lot seemed to have stayed the same

There are two different surveys. IQS which is the first 90 days of ownership. Then there is the long term quality survey which measures the first 3 years of ownership.

Believe it, but that has been the trend every since Ford bought them.
