Im going to go with 'No', mainly because it looks like a total sketch bag operation run by a clown.

A clown.

I believe the 1s are what they use when it does't have a VIN because it's from Japan. Once registered it gets a VIN

this was posted near the bottom of the text for that car:

Due to VIN not compatible with ebay had to use different all 1's to enter the auction. Actual VIN issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles is: JZZ30-0010250

so does it seem legit now?

or still a big NO?

I would never buy a car without seeing it in person first. Never.

if it can be registered why isn't it....

My assumption would be that it can be registered provided you find someone capable of making it emmisions legal. Most japanease imports have to be modified to pass stateside emmissions and environmental restrictions.

Looks too sketchy to me. I'd reccomend just finding an old beaten and battered 240sx parts are cheap and the fanbase and ownership is huge.

Alexis: The US VIN registration decodes differently than Japan's. I think they have a 19 digit VIN, but I might be mistaken. The car is registered according to the Auction page, so the Japanese VIN is aliased to the DOT's issued VIN. If it's not plated, I suspect it would need a Recall Clearance letter from the manufacturer, but since it's got the new registration I doubt it needs anything to plate it. I'd check first with the DOT and the seller.

Rascal: The Soarer would need to have an inspection, and emissions (unless it's got a modified exhaust because it's from a prefecture that doesn't have exhaust modification moritoriums) are analogous with same-year Supra's.

Rest: Buying off ebay is the same as buying through Hemmings motors. Most people will give all the info they can, and are basically trying to make a profit. I've been burned by dealers, and buying from auctions, Ebay isn't any different than these people. If you're paranoid, find a vehicle inspection service in the locale of the seller, and pay the $75 to avoid the headaches.
