My dad's Jimmy just took a crap in the middle of the road and died. It has needed so much work taht he decided this time he's not gonna get it fixed and just get a new vehicle. It is only gonna have $1000 trade in value. He is looking at a 2005 pontiac vibe w/ 30,000 miles. It's gonna be $14,500. Any opinions on this car or things wee need to knwo about it?
no problems...it's a toyota Matrix in Pontiac clothing. the engine code is 1ZZ-FE. it's worth the buy...seriously.

Yep, that about sums it up. I like the way it looks, and ride quality is very good. Steering is a little soft, but that is to be expected from a car in this range, and can be corrected by upgrading the sway bars (Hotchkis). The interior is fairly quiet, but I'd recommend dynamat under the rear area (under the spare tire). My biggest beef with it is the lack of power. If your dad's Jimmy was a 4-banger, though, the Vibe will actually be faster. For comparison purposes, its marginally faster then a 2.2 OHV cav, but noticably slower then a 2.2 Eco or 2.4L. The GM supercharger kit for the Vibe will not work on the 2005+, so if you/he thought you could boost it, thats pretty much out of the question without a significant amount of work.
Overall I think its a good car for the money. For what I had to spend, it was probably the best choice for me. If I had a little more to spend I would have gotten something with a bit more power, but for what I did spend, I'm satisfied.

^That is an opinion if you have a automatic as he does and that assumption is typical with almost any 4-banger auto.
In a 5-speed form the car feels suprisenly light, revs quick, very peppy for what it is. My father bought one and tells me he gets 32mpgs all city. Build quality is very good inside and out. This beats buying a gas guzzling SUV hands down.
Shifter feel is notchy and Rally-car like. Good driving position and cargo room is good too.
The GT version (which this is its last year as well as the AWD too) is fun to drive. With its tight, close ratio gearing , it feels torquier then what numbers suggest.
One thing though, road noise can pass through the open back. But that is minor. The car overall scores a "10" for what it is.

True, I should have mentioned this is with the auto. Yes the manual is a bit quicker, as is true with most cars. I had no choice in the matter because my wife can only drive an auto. You also didn't mention if it was a base or GT. My base Vibe gets an average of 28-29mpg, but I do tend to have a lead foot when it comes to accelerating. In flat out highway driving (80mph) I tend to see 30-32mpg (as measured with multiple trips from PHX to Las Vegas).

Well it's an automatic. He doesnt care about speed or handling just practibility and mileage which it is very good for. He has a 75 Trans Am 400 auto for speed purposes
ive ridden in daves a few times and i like
has your dad driven 1 yet ? if he liked it , then he should be happy with it
