Looking to buy the 06 civic

Anyone else test drive the new 06 civic? I test drove the DX a few days ago and fell in love with it. The two tierd guages are awesome. I'm not big on digital speedo's but it was really convenient because you never had to take your eyes off the road to see your speed. I also really like the tach. Overall you just feel like you're in a cacoon. Doors come up high so you feel more enclosed.

I'm not sure if i'm going to go with the DX or next model up (ex i think). The DX doesn't come with AC which is not good but i could probably worrk something out to get it added for free. The other thing i don't like is that it doesn't come with a radio/cd player. It's not a big deal because I planed on swapping in my cd player but I also think it doesn't come with speakers or any of the wires. Does anyone know for sure if I'd have to install the wires and speakers or if the wires are already there?

Just trying to gauge some feedback from people. I like some other cars (pontiac g6, nissan maxima, 07 camry). But the civic falls below my price range which is nice and insurance on the other cars I like will be more (already looking at 4g a year for insurance in chicago).

I thought it was stranger that you can get a car without a AM/FM radio.. lol. Honda sure does strip their cars down..

I have a perfectly clean license. The only thing on my total record is 2 traffic infractions (not stopping at a stop sign for the full 3 seconds, not yielding at a yellow light). It's because i'm 21 and i fall into the gene pool with idiot 21 year old drivers, plus chicago is high in theft for cars so. I wish insurance companies could see that i've never had a speeding ticket in the past 5 years of driving. I rarely go over 5 over the speed limit.

The DX is stripped. AC is a big issue for me. They say they didn't include the radio because honda figured most people buying the DX were kids who planned to modify it so they could have a lower price and let kids just add the aftermarket speakers and cd players that they usually do. Makes sense imo.

I do like the G6 but it will be quite a bit more and I dunno if I wanna go with a GM again. Their good cars and all but honda's overall last longer and the civic gets better gas mileage.

hold on one second. You live in jersey and hve a 350z and pay 4g? OK i'm going back to my insurance guy and finding out what the F*CK is going on. Your only one year older then me and still fall under the "under 25yrs old and male" category. I'm going back tomorrow and finding out what's going on.

I'm in the same male 25 and under category and I pay around a thousand a year for a car that will go 160mph. Imagine the carnage I could create . You are getting ripped off.

Way too much for insurance man. Look for a different insurance quote from other companies.

Over all, yea a honda will break less then a GM. When a honda does break though I sure hope you have lots of lube because their going to rip you a new one. Either you do 5 repairs for say 100 bux each or you do 1 repair for 5-600 bucks. I think it all evens out. Now given some cars are lemons and some are factory freaks and my guess is no where accurate its just an example.

Its just like ford and chevy's. I work on the big 3 all day at work. More Chevy's break then Ford. When Chevy's come in more often they are usually out same day or the next day. When a Ford comes in its in for atleast 3 days.

OK so I went to esurance and got a quote. I did a pretty rough estimate but it came to around 1117 a year for insurance where I currently live. My insurance person told me to double it if I was moving to chicago (havn't talked to him yet about the quote i just got) so I'd be looking at around 2300 a year in chicago which isn't bad at all. This all just kind of pisses me off. I'm still driving around my beater because I didn't wanna buy a civic unless I had a decent paying job out in chicago so I could afford my apartment/parking/insurance/car/cell payment. the BIG thing being the insurance since it would be 2g every 6 months. I wish I could just get a solid quote so I should know if i'm looking to buy a car now or after I secure a 50-60K job.

FYI - Insurance companies charge $$ for car insurance based on the age of the driver, the state you are in, laws, fees, assessments, etc, tickets or infractions, coverage you want , liability limits, etc.

As far as vehicles go, they charge the amount by damage ability symbols, the lower or higher the symbol, the more you are charged for it(as needed).

Symbols are not arrived at by top speed of the vehicle or by 0-60 times, at all! Or anything like that for that matter.
1. They are made up by how seriosly a person may be injured in it if they were driving it and had a accident with it. IE-rollover, side impact, etc.
2. My how much parts cost to repair said vehicle in a accident, ex: Imports are generally more expensive then Domestics due to this fact.
3. By value of value(A $50,000 vehicle versus a $85,000 value)
4. Theft factor of said vehicle also counts into this cost.

Insurance companies do not rate cars by Speed, Acceralation, Tires, Engine, Transmission, Gear ratio, or anything else like that.

Now, lets see a example on it.....2001 Ford Taurus vs 2001 ford Taurus SHO

The SHO will be a little more than base line Taurus because ......

1. It costs more than base line
2. Has more options than base line
3. Stats say this SHO will more likely be in a accident than the baseline(Will be driven most likely by a more aggressive driver, Base model will be a less aggressive driver, IE grandpa, grandma, etc.) Just a rule a thumb, not a fact!
4. SHO, more likely to be stolen than the baseline Taurus.

Hope this helps all ORG people out there. I'm and insurance agent, I do this for a living, 12+ yrs now...so I know a little bit about it.

Peace. + Safe driving

Silver Stripey: So realistically what should I be paying if I'm 21, 2 small traffic infractions, buying an 06 Civic EX, and living in chicago.

Another question. Is it insurance fraud if I continue to have my insurance in NYS while I temporarily live in chicago? I'll still have my home address here in NY and I dunno if I plan on getting residence in IL because I don't know if i'll be living there for longer than 2 years. When I lived out in cali going to college I kept everything in NYS.

Your OK staying in Chicago with your vehicle and current home address....No problem there. Youre insurance goes with you anywhere you go.

As long as the vehicle is not plated, registered, or titled in ILL. and as long as you don't have a ILL drivers licence...you'll be good to go.

Rates wise with my company==$3745.per yr==Ouch! Sorry.

You're under 25 - Stats say if you have had two tickets, You are a #1 candidate for a accident NEXT! - no joke!!! Its not you, or you being a good or bad driver...those are the national stats on the subject. - Again Sorry! (no way out of it anywhere I know of)

As far as which vehicle to get....Its not going to vary to much really...

Your going to hover around 3500-4000 per yr. no matter where you go or what vehicle you chose, due to the stats I mentioned above.

Best advise I can offer is to get something that you do not have to have full coverage on until you are age 25 or older, thats when those evil stats are no longer put upon you. Things will be much cheaper after that age by about 25-35% in some cases.

Hope this helps.................

That helps A TON. Insruance for where I live now will cost me a little over $1,000. Going with E-surance or that funny little gecko. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't illegal. I dont plan on getting an IL license or anything of that nature. It's kind of comical how insurance companies figure stuff out. The funniest part is that it's all proven statistics. Like how people with two small tickets are likely to get into an accident for their next one. As for car shopping. You told me what my insurance guy told me. It doesn't matter what new car I buy. If I have to have all the coverage things on it... I'm paying a lot until i'm 25. Buy hopefully if I get this job in Chicago, I won't have to worry about too much money wise (as far as car payments and insurance payments goes.)
