Universally recognized as the leader in reliability and build quality, Toyota is taking a hit to that reputation due to a new model that is “plagued with problems.” The 2006 Avalon is causing a lot of owners grief, according to columnist Mark Rechtin. “There have been significant throttle control and transmission hesitation issues,” says Avalon owner Alan Seider, 45, a computer consultant from Roswell, Ga. “I’ve isolated 15 different rattles in the body work.” Seider is far from alone, says Rechtin. “Internet chat rooms are littered with complaints from Toyota loyalists about the redesigned Avalon, which went on sale in February 2005.”

YAY !!!!! Bad News for Toyota I hope they burn for this !!!!
Pfff... only 15 rattles.
Well, you should expect an upscale car to not have any/very many rattles.
And no american company has ever had problems with rattles? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!. Every company has quality problems with one model or another eventually. Think explorers and exploding tires, or Durangos and failing balljoints.... Didn't GM have a pretty big ABS recall recently? At least toyotas "issues" are just NVH and driveability related.

15 spots that rattle is nothing compared to the fire'.
That's all I was saying.
It's the first model year for the car. what do you expect.
I think that it is great because I have friends that think that Toyota is God's gift. That there isn't any problems at all with Toyota's.
youre being a douche anyways
like seriously, what did toyota do to you? anything? no? i didnt think so
whoopy friggin dooo! they have problems with A COMPLETELY NEW MODEL
wow!
my mom bought one of these last summer...i love it in everyway. I have noticed some of the hesitation issues but they are only MINOR, and i mean extremely minor, annoyances. It seems to me the car is very solidly built but i guess i could be bias.
And as far as toyota being gods gift, im not sure about that but i did just read an article on msn i think it was about how more and mroe people are switching over to foreign auto's. Hell, my dad, a diehard chevy fan, just traded in his 2003 escalade for a tacoma, better gas mileage, just as well buile, not all the extra stuff to keep breaking, and not to mention i havent heard of any "dust shields" rusting off and tearing up the whole rearends (yes this happened to us and from what i hear it happenes quite frequently)
i know this is only one experience but im just saying that many cars have problems, it just depends on how much you let it bother you and from what i can tell the issues with the avalon are just something you get used to after driving it for awhile
Propaganda BS put out by Korean automakers.
Sieg Heil Toyota.
LS1's never blow up;
Spray that puppy... 02 sensors are overrated.

What did they do to him? probably cut his hours at the GM plant or laid off many people he knew due to Toyota's growth.

That's pretty interesting considering my 85 cav type 10 has no rattles and its 21 yrs old,funny.New models are prone to issue with manufacture which in time we be resolved maybe or completely.Nothing new in terms of issues with cars in general.

Hmmmmm. Quality issues? Rattles? who wants to bet the Avalon is made in the U.S.A. by our super competent, top-notch former UAW auto-workers? The problem Nfamous doesn't realize is this is pretty much the ONLY dent in an otherwise flawless record. We could compare it to GM's 1000's of quality issues and numberous yearly model recalls, and Toyota would still look like gold. So he comes off as a sore Pro-Union lackey with no point.

Yes they are made in Kentucky are the former UAW employees I don't know but that shouldn't matter now.
Toyota has more problems than what many relize because it doesn't get put out there in the media plus the preception isn't there. Just like the last Seat Belt recall GM gets the seat belts from a supplier which just happens to supply Toyota also. Toyota had a recall but it was brushed under the rug.
Plus I think that it is funny that a VW guy is talking about how bad GM Quality is lol Mexico
O plus I am not a UAW employee
I'm sorry, i didn't hear a word you said i have my ignorant import hater volume down. could you repeat all the BS you just said.

Actually I like Nissans especially the Infanity G35 Concept and the Skyline.
I like Mazdas styling and handeling just they have crappy power.
This whole Avalon thing wont make the news until Buick takes the top spot from Toyota in Quality. LOL
i think alot of you are way to hard on GM
like 90% of my friends and family own GM vehicles, and to be honest with you i can't count more than like 4 problems between all of them. My parents own two toyotas and my dad said hes thinking about getting an impalla because he is pretty impressed at how reliable my 2.2 OHV cav has been over the past almost 4 years. An alternator and a valve cover gasket, 135.00 in repairs in 3.5 years i don't see what's wrong with that.
im not saying there better than toyota but there not nearly as bad as you guys act like they are.

Yeah it is funny isn't it? The beetle sucks so far as reliability goes, and I make no bones about it. But I'M not the one making threads about toyotas quality issues because I'm pissed off that my lazy union ass is afraid of losing its job because the company i work for has yet to step up and really compete with the imports. Put aside any quality issues, the american companies have spent too long trying to create a market for their vehicles instead of trying to create vehicles that would sell in the current market. All of the bitching about domestic versus imported is pointless in this day and age, so why don't you just quit trying to propagate it already? While you sit here decrying Toyota as they bring more jobs IN to this country, GM is trying to close more american plants and move jobs to mexico and canada, just like ford and chrysler. Maybe you should stop bitching about toyota and start thinking about applying with them lol.

The 2.2 OHV is a great motor. My sister has over 120k on hers w/ little problems. The rest of the car's reliability is subjective though lol.

Eh? If anything I'd say they're about average in power. The base model 2006 Mazda 3 puts out 150 HP (PZEV = 145)
Now lets compare that to the competition:
Mazda 3 = 150
Cobalt = 145
Civic = 140
Corolla = 126
Sentra = 126
Mazda 6 = 160
Accord = 166
Altima = 175
Camry = 154
Passat = 200
Galant = 160
I'd say if anything they're about average in power.
