Graduation Car! Need advice!
Sunday, April 16, 2006 11:56 AM
Well I am graduating from highschool here in about a month. My graduation present will be a new car . Now don't everyone rag on me and say im spoiled, I had to buy my sunfire and will be selling it shortly. The highest I am aloud to go is 6,500$, looking for sporty, quite a bit faster than the sunfire, this one has to be an automatic if possible the auto/manuel, looking low to mid miles, any suggestions would be amazing. Thanks

You aren't going to get much in the $6500 range, not anything faster than a 99-00 GT or Z24.

With that buget, you should still be looking at a J body, just newer, lower miles. Maybe you can score an eco, but more likely a 2.4

Good luck with whatever you get!

you can pick up the 92-96 preludes pretty cheap. Theyll run for ever too. You may even be able to find one like mine (97-01) if your lucky.

cant you sell the fire and add that money to what your parents will spend?

^^^ For real that would make more since. Cause $6500 isn't gonna get you anything really woth a damn. If anything just keep your sunfire and see if they will just give you the cash and put it in a savings account.

sell the fire and take the 6500 and u can probably get something decent. But really for 6500 alone a newer J is probably the best bang for your buck.

first off. you're NOT spoiled. if you want to see spoiled than visit
e46fanatics.com. Young kids given brand new 330ci bimmers
at 16 and 3k for mods on their 17th birthday. Those kids make
me want to puke (especially their poor, undeserving attitudes)

second. I think everyone is correct when they're suggesting you
combine the 6500 with other funds (whether it be from your
savings or the sale of your current car)

personally, I would look for a 1997 prelude (195hp, triptronic),
but I don't know what they're worth in the states. good luck, and
congrats !!!!

Get a Jeep!

but if you want a car, car/ Then kinda combine what everyone is saying. Buy the best eco j-body you can. Maybe a 2.4L if need be. then you the money you get from the sunfire to lower it, and turbo it! Then you got something sporty and FAST!

Well I bought a slightly modded 98 GTP w/ 61k for $3,800. The paint wasn't perfect but whatever. I spent an extra $1,000 on paint and now the car looks and runs great!

lol... my g/f just had to get another car because her last one got totaled by some asshat that didn't know you have to yield when turning left on a green light. She was around this same price range, and ended up getting a '98 Saturn with 50,000 miles...

So these guys are right that you are not going to find that nice (or fast) of a car in this price range unless you find a bargain.
