Looking for some Fbody info.
Sunday, April 16, 2006 10:31 AM
Well as of late the cavy has been getting me more and more frustrated. I have decided to get rid of it and buy something alittle more performance oriented. As you can guess from the topic title, i am thinking about getting an fbody. What i'd like to know is what i should look for and what i should stay away from like engne wise, or what years aare bad and such. I definetly know i want a V8, 6spd. I know we have alot of F-body knowledge here so help me out please? Trying to get one for under 10k, which i am finding is good for like 93-98 ish years. Any advice would be great!

And can someone tell me the difference between the M6, and A4? which is better? does either have a major advantage?

Thanks ahead of time!

none of them have huge problems, all little fixes but i suggest an LS1

autos are better for drag then m6's but thats just your preference to which you want cause 99% of the time u wont have it at the track, id go with a m6 just for the fun factor.

LS1 is your best bang for the buck. you can find the 4th gens for under ten with the ls1, i dont reccoment going any other way with it. and M6 is even better for fun times.

Ls1tech.com for sure...

All 99+Ls1's are basically the same(01-02 have a ls6 intake manifold) but whether it's a z28, SS, Formula, T/A, WS6 etc they all have the same horsepower and performance. 98's have a few motor differences but they are basically the same also.

The A4 is good for the strip with a stall. I'd personally go for an M6 due to the better mpg, less power loss, and of course the fun factor... M6's also seem to bring more $$

you think i can find an LS1 m6 for under 10k? that's all the higher i can go loan wise that my rents will co-sign. and i can't use the money i get from the cav, cause they said i can only get a loan big enough to get to 10k...

Have you checked on insurance yet? You might be in for a surprise....

You can definitely find an LS1 6 speed for under 10k. It'll be an older one (98-00) and most likely not an SS or WS6.

^yeap i have, i'm still young and my rents said i can put it on there insurance still till i get out of college. The cavalier is only costing me 1200 a year for full coverage, including the body kit and chameleon paint. the insurance guy said he can't give me an exact price without the exact model car, but he guesses somewhere around 2000-2500

Everything Borsty has said so far I agree 100% with. Dont let Jinx chime in on the LT1 =P Yes the LS1 is better and faster. Dont let that discourage you from the LT1 though. It can very easily be a mean S.O.B. Its not hard to get an LT1 into the 12's. Given the LS1 is pretty much already there, but you're going to be paying a lot more for an LS1. You can get a cheaper LT1 (which will probably save on isurance also) put a few hundred in it and be at the same point and still have paid less then an LS1.

Also its true the A4 is better for drag, but a M6 is much funner to drive and play on the streets with. If you want to Auto X or race road courses then the M6 is the way to go. You can always go with a 3rd gen =P

If you go with an LS1 get the Trans Am I think they look soo much sexier then the camaro. Any other ones though definately get the camaro. What ever you do dont settle for a V6 though. You'll just kick your self in the ass for it later.
