2002 GTI 1.8l T vs 2003 ecotec?

My thing is that my auto teacher has a 2002 gti and he thinks that he will beat my ecotec by at least 6 or more cars at the track. My car has a AEM cai and a hooker race exhaust with tune. His is just a magnaflow exhaust. What do you guys think.

just let me know what yal think.

I have seen POS hondas beat blown stangs at the track, it really depends on drivers. If both cars are driven perfectly Im thinking the gti will beat you.

The Gti is a quick car no doubt. It's not much heavier than the Cav and with 30 more stock horsies. I'm not sure how much the exhaust frees up on those though.

Oie...You cant just look at hp numbers and compare.

Yes, the GTI will beat you, by 6 car lengths, probably not...

tell him to prove it and go to your local drag strip. that way there isn't any arguing about it when it's done. i don't think he'll beat you by 6 cars though.

Said he only has a hooker muffler in the profile. Who knows what the hell he is talking about.

And what the hell do you mean by tune? Until recently, you couldn't tune our cars. And I'm sure as hell most certain that yours isn't tuned.

Well I have a 2003 Ecotec and my best friend has a 2002 VW Jetta (similar car to the GTI yes?) GLS 1.8T and I can say that car is worlds faster than my Cavalier, then again it is turboed with 40 extra ponies. I don't think he'll beat you by six car lengths in his GTI but I could be wrong. If I were to take an amateur guess...I would say more like 2 - 2.5 cars...but this is only my amateur opinion.

You better have a good launch ... other wise you better start liking the rear end of the GTI

most 1.8T drivers are chumps off the line, and some are convinced that shifting at 6300 will make them faster (it won't).... line up with him and PRAY that he's one of those morons, otherwise, get ready to see taillights.

well, I can hang with a GTI until just over 100 (just after the 3-4 shift), then the GTI starts to creep past. I think it's my gearing. because at about 130 I start to run even again. maybe it's the powerband and 5th, I don't know.

I do know, you will get beat, very badly. sorry.
