My buddy has a 1992 Grand AM that stalls out sometimes when car is shifted into drive, also when decellerating quickly from higher speeds like getting off the freeway. I was thinking the fuel system, but anyone have any ideas?

Like the fuel system is a NO.It's is more than likely the TCC switch the torque convertor clutch switch mounted on the transmission is probably SHOT.Best thing is to b sure is disconnect it and the problem should go away,if so the switch needs to be replaced along with replacing the transmission gasket and new fluid. The fluid is more than likely toast and that's what causes the the fluid to get too hot and burn up the switch itself. If the fluid is not changed it will toast the new switch again.Simple fix and not uncommon problem based on ur post above, since it is classic symptoms for this issue.OK
thanks for the help
