Automatic Sportbike types....
Thursday, April 06, 2006 4:32 PM
Are there any companies (honda,suzuki,etc...) that made or make a automatic tranmission sportbike type?

Dont like harley type loud bikes but hate shifting on sportbikes.

thanx in advanced.

I don't think so, the only automatic transmission I've ever seen has been on motor scooters like a yamaha zuma, vespa, etc. Sorry, I know that's not much help...

Why would you want an automatic Sportbike? That takes the fun out of having a sportbike!

Want auto?? Get a scooter or Gold Wing. Maybe a Silver Wing, but I can't remember for sure if they're auto. I know GW has reverse too, lazy mofo's, lol. Thing is a pig tho, I'll give those riders that much. Sportbikes are so easy to shift, and with 17K redlines (my 636, anyway), you have plenty of motor to go with those 6 gears And it's close-ratio, so you don't have to worry as much about rev-matching

I don't think Silverwings are auto, the only auto motorcycle I ever remember are the old Hondamatics. About the whole GW having reverse for lazy mofos... I sometimes ride my dads harley road king that weighs about 750 lbs and I know a GW weighs even more believe me I would think reverse is heaven sent on something like that. Cause I'm only 5'5" and backing up the harley is a pain.

Well I guess buy a bigger sport bike. When first gear goes up to 100 why even bother shifting?

^ I think my 636 redlines first gear around 65-70, lol. That'd be plenty for everything but the highway. One would definetly need stock exhaust b/c it'll be screaming higher up, lol

be honest, you know how to ride a bicycle
you've sat on a sport bike and you were told how to shift, but you've never actually ridden.

no, shifting on a bike is very easy, and most the time i rode my friends i didnt get out of 2nd.

i was just seeing if they actually did make an automatic one.

someone told me about 5-6 years ago they did and i was seeing if anyone on here knew about it.

i searched google, but no luck just a bunch of harleys and stuff.

seeing as how this is a forum full of people who modify cars... you'd think someone would suggest rigging up some sort of acutator system that would read the RPM's and shift when it needed to.

of course, it would probably be easier to just shift yourself than rig up something like that. lol.

Didn't honda make that Valkyrie that was like a 2-speed Automatic or something?
That was the closest to a sport bike ive seen but it was considered a cruiser I think.

if you really need an auto get an air shifter all you need to do is let the clutch out to go but that is only for racing i have never seen it on the street

Suzuki makes a stepthrough type motorbike now that is 650cc and is an automatic. Honda made a 750 that was automatic back around 1978, think they made it for about 3 years, it had a shifter to shift from high to low without a clutch.

Step-thru = Scooter. I don't care how big the engine is, it's still a scooter, haha. I think I actually saw the term "Sport Scooter" or something like that for those bigger ones, lmao
