Saturn Sky Red Line

BOLD NEW SATURN VEHICLES DEBUT AT NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

Saab Aero X makes North American debut on Saab USA 50 th anniversary, Pontiac reveals G6 GXP show car

NEW YORK – General Motors will unveil a dramatically revitalized Saturn lineup with production versions of the all-new 2007 Saturn Aura midsize sedan, Saturn Sky Red Line performance roadster and Saturn Outlook crossover vehicle at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.

“Saturn’s new products demonstrate GM’s commitment to raising the bar on product execution as part of our North American turnaround plan,” said Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president, Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. “Saturn’s dramatic new cars and crossovers, combined with an industry-leading positive retail experience, are a winning combination.”

The Saturn vehicles making their world debut in New York include:

The Saturn Aura, which goes on sale this summer, brings the new design of Saturn into a fun-to-drive sport sedan, with bold exterior styling and high levels of interior refinement.
The Saturn Sky Red Line, arriving at Saturn retailers this fall, adds extra power and performance to Saturn’s new signature roadster with a 260-horsepower 2.0L direct-injection turbo.
The Saturn Outlook is an eight-passenger crossover vehicle that strikes an ideal balance of style, size and capability. Outlook, which goes into production later this year, is built on GM’s new crossover vehicle platform.
A Saturn concept vehicle that will provide an indication of how the brand’s new design cues will continue on future vehicles.
In addition to the bold new Saturn production vehicles and concept, Saab will showcase its aviation heritage and Scandinavian design philosophy in the Saab Aero X concept, which makes its North American debut in New York. Saabs were first introduced in New York to the U.S. market 50 years ago.

“The Saturns and the Saab Aero X concept demonstrate how GM continues to leverage global resources to develop emotionally compelling vehicle designs, which is key to sustaining our product momentum,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president, Global Design.

Conceived as a study to explore future design directions, the all-wheel-drive Saab Aero X concept features an innovative front-hinged canopy with no A-pillars, lightweight carbon fiber bodywork and a jet-inspired cockpit without conventional dials and buttons. The 400-horsepower twin turbo BioPower V-6 is fueled by 100-percent ethanol, a renewable and sustainable energy source that reduces vehicle emissions.

GM’s Pontiac brand also has plans for New York with the Pontiac G6 GXP show car. The G6 GXP builds on the clean, contemporary styling of the G6 coupe with a 270-horsepower 3.9L V-6 and a more aggressive, ground-hugging appearance and stance. The GXP show car will test both media and public reaction before a decision on production is made.

GM’s New York International Auto Show exhibit also will feature many of the products recently introduced at auto shows in Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago.

the sky RL is sweet.

but i'm wondering how many different models of G6 they're gonna come out with. they already have the 4-door 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder, GT, and GTP; the Convert GT and GTP; and the 2-door GT and GTP, and now they're considering a GXP. that's a lot of different models without much difference between them (other than engine sizes).

As soon as I drive my lsJ with stage 2 to it's demise, I will put it that turbo motor in the Cobalt, yes I will...........................

Saturn has a bright near future. That redline sky is so attractive and has performance and price to boot. The new aura sedan looks awesome and should sell well also. Can't wait to start seeing modded sky's they're going to look sick.

The 2006 Pontiac G6 GXP promises to deliver more Exterior enhancements are subtle, but enough to distinguish the GXP from the mid-grade GT and high-level GTP model. Up front is a much larger air dam and side vents that, if functional, will serve to cool down the front brakes. Adding to the more aggressive appearance are smoked headlight lenses and a rear bumper with a lower diffuser panel and cutouts for the dual chrome exhaust tips. Eighteen-inch chrome wheels, color-keyed mirrors, side skirts and GXP badges round off the list of improvements.

Gone is the standard four-speed automatic transmission, which has been swapped out for a livelier six-speed manual gearbox like the GTP. A lowered suspension with Bilstein shocks replaces the standard underpinnings, helping to control that extra get-up-and-go.
The engine will the same one as the GTP but with 30 more ponies (270HP). It's the 3900 V6 w/VVT OHV or how GM calls it: "Cam in Block."

It's a nice upgrade and will do nicely with the Nissan Altima SE-R. Now I wonder what guns will Nissan bring with the all-new Altima in m/y 2007.

GM press release

Pontiac Unveils G6 GXP Show Car

Enhancements hint at possible new offering in growing G6 portfolio

Seeking to build on the 25-percent retail sales gain by the G6 so far this year, Pontiac is revealing a new G6 GXP coupe show car at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. Designed to augment the G6’s sleek styling with a more aggressive appearance and stance, the new GXP show car will test both media and public reaction before any final decision on production is made.

“Although the GXP performance series has been very successful in the past, we’ve never attempted to introduce a GXP on our largest volume vehicle and we want to be sure we do it right,” said Dennis Maraone, Pontiac product director. “We believe the package of exterior, interior and performance enhancements we’ve put together on the G6 GXP show car should appeal to 2+2 coupe enthusiasts.”

Highlighting the exterior styling changes is a redesigned front fascia, featuring an integrated lower air dam and an aggressive chrome treatment of Pontiac’s signature twin-port grille, as well as a twin air scoop hood. Around back, the new rear fascia shows off the dual chrome-tipped exhaust and unique “hammerhead” spoiler. Side rocker panels, 19-inch wheels, vented cross-drilled brake rotors, and a 25-mm reduction in suspension height finish off the GXP’s ground-hugging appearance.

Inside, red accents give the GXP a sportier flavor than a standard G6. The red chrome trim on the instrument cluster, center stack and door controls augments the red leather seat and door panel inserts.

Under the hood, the G6 GXP uses a modified 3.9-liter V-6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Linking a ram air induction system with K&N air filter to a cat-back free flowing exhaust helps boost engine output to 270 horsepower (202 kw) and 259 lb.-ft. of torque (358 Nm).

The GXP performance series was introduced in 2003 with the Bonneville GXP. The Grand Prix GXP joined the line in 2005 and currently accounts for 30 percent of all Grand Prix retail sales. The Solstice GXP launches this fall.
