Corrado's? anyone know about them?
Saturday, April 01, 2006 2:49 PM
Hey i just wanted to see what the rap is on these cars? My friends boss has one and its up for sale. I'm not sure if its the 2.8VR6 or the 1.8Supercharged. Either way its a 5 speed. And has about 150,000kms.

just curious what they are like for reliability and repairs. Someone told me they used to have one (with the VR6) and it was in the garage every other week.....

Any input would be great.

p.s this is an example for anyone who doesnt know what they look like:

my buddy had one back in HS. Pretty quick cars, but it had its fair share of problems every so often.

As long as you take care of your VW, it will take care of you. VW is the favourite trademark in Mexico. Back in the south we used to have a VW Jetta, one MK2 and later on a MK3 pretty reliable cars, that is the standard version. Automatic VW sucks.

Yeah VW is pretty big in mexico. Maybe they know a trick to properly maintaining them or something. hehe

Looks nice. I would suggest reading through VWVortex's Corrado FAQ to see if its right for you though.

I almost bought a mint G60 a few years ago. It was a really nice car with low miles but it definetly lacked performance. (I guess I expected more because it was supercharged)
I also remember the speed activated spoiler being annoying with a loud "thud" when it would shut.

I think they are slick looking cars but I would opt for the vr6...

They are gorgeoud and quick, but...they do tend to break down esp in these days since they are getting old, OEM parts are abundant and cheap, watch out for the old supercharged ones, alot of their Chargers are on their last limb and those are not cheap at all. Does give you an excuse to build it up and put a nicer charger on it . All in all, if you are decent mechanically and willing to invest some time and money into them later on they are great cars. Tons of fun to drive, RARE, and GORGEOUS....I wish I could afford to up keep one.

If it's a VR6 and a good price get it.. makre sure the wheels are 5 lug. i think the lesser engine models were a 4 lug pattern... at least that's what my mechanic told me some time ago, i may be wrong.

corrado was a good car that was pretty much sunk by stupid little issues.... the G60 was a better handling car, but the supercharger was prone to failure... you'd be better off swapping to a Bahn Brenner Lysholm charger instead if its a G60. THe motor itself is a tank, just the charger sucks. The VR6's from the corrados had headgasket and other cooling issues... and the caster angle was increased for better highway stability, but the turning radius suffered so the steering feels sluggish. Overall, i think they're a good car, but in all seriousness, if you want one as a daily driver, its probably not your best choice. If you want it as a project car, and you have another car to drive around, by all means, jump on it.

My buddy Jason had one he loved it to death till a hit and run accident in the middle of the night that made it shrink by about a foot or two. We think it was a trash truck or something equaly huge that killed it. But yeah they're cool cars I'd grab it up if you could.
I've always thought they were the best looking VW's out there. No offence Scarab

What I've noticed is that in America many people prefer automatic over standard (as a matter of fact one guy from Minnesota told me once: "Standard? You mean stick shift right? Yeah my Grandfather used to own one of those." lol). At college I've seen many automatic VW (mostly of girls; beetles, Jettas and a few Golfs) and maybe that's the reason VW seems so problematic, because as I said before Automatic VW = Failure at life. I've talked with people who live in Tijuana (which is a dradful city full of holes) that own standard Jettas and Golfs and they say it's the best car they've ever owned.
