my 97 dodge neon coupe

hey guys just thought i would post a decent pic of the car i got in the deal with selling my Z24

i got this car and 4 grand for the Z24 so i guess i made out pretty good

the car is in great condition has minor dings here and there but nothing out of the normal
its has 134k miles on the engine though but they where all highway miles and the engine is still very strong actualy its so strong its able to beat my other friend automatic 96 z24 haha.. which runs low 16's at the track over here so i might be a 16 even right now

mods ive done so far :
removed complete A/C system
removed spare tire and jack
...thats it haha

future mods:
CAI
magnum head
high flow magnum header
high flow muffler
#14 cam
mopar pcm upgrade
adjustable cam gear
underdrive crank pulley
Power stearing system removal
more weight reduction...

all that should only cost me well under a grand and i should be looking at a high 14 second car N/A

the thing is actualy quite quick right now considering its only a 2.0 sohc and a atx i was very suprised and it pulls pretty hard in the upper rpm's instead of the lower ones like my Z24

let me know what you think

Looks good, neons can be fun to drive. My fiance has a base model 4-door and its still fun in the corners. Even if you're not going to mod the exterior....please paint the wipers black

Dehaze the lights and give it a good wash/wax...looks like it'll clean up real nice.

orangez i think i remember you, bought a z24 $1000 bucks on ebay put a junk yard engine in it, painted it a sweet orange. bought a used Gm supercharger from Boostedeco's friend got that z24 running good and then sold the charger some time later to chris fontana to use the money to go back to school.

oh and the neon is looking good.

pretty nice car, and im glad you know to remove the power steering. me and my brother did that to his neon, and it really gave it a nice power gain

haha yup thats the whole story dead on too im suprised someone actualy even remembered all that..makes me feel important or something haha

sold the Z24 to pay some bills yay!(sarcasism) luckly i got a decent car in the trade and more then enough to pay the bills off

btw thanks for the comments so far guys,

i would dehaze the head lights if i knew how .. if you know a link or something let me know. also the red whiper blades came with the car lol not my style hell the whole car wasnt my style when i got it... it had a streetglow sticker on the windsheild and a APC sticker on the rear window and had this horrible autozone huge metal type spoiler on the trunk... took that off but now have 4 holes in the trunk lol so i put some washer and screws in them so it wouldnt leak till i get a new lid from the junk yard.. the only thing nice that was moded on the car was the window tint haha and i love the street glow neons that "dont" work lol.. stupid extra weight im gonna take them off tomorrow

im probably gonna drop it on some sportlines and get some cheap set of nice 16" rims and tires off ebay and that be it for exteria mods gonna keep this one a sleeper, was thinking about droping in a 2.4dohc from a dodge stratus as its pretty much a direct swap but im not sure yet have to get a price on an engine at the lot, i might be best just sticking with the SOHC engine and just swap the headnot sure yet

keep the comments coming guys
thanks again

my buddy's R/T
alot of weight reduction, no a/c or ps, full bolt on's, 2.4 swap, full srt4 turbo setup (awaiting install)

I like neons, I might pick one up as my next project. they can be very quick and underestimated.

thanks for the pic, yeah they are underestimated heck i didnt even know you could make one fast so easy... honestly it must be 10x cheaper to build one of these up then a j-body and thats not to mention theres a billion parts out there that all interswap between engines, ive desided that im just gonna do the 2.4 swap instead as its easy and i would get some much need tq

btw how quick is your friends car i would imagine pretty quick any 1/4 times that you know of, also it deffinately looks like he has the AC compressor on in that shot but nothing else that relates to the AC lol im probably wrong but still looks like some kinda belt drive thing in where the ac was on mine

There are three mains ways I know of to dehaze headlights:
1) Buy brand new replacements (dealership, ebay, etc) Most $$$$
2) I know there are "dehazing kits" on ebay, some are good, some aren't, not as bad money-wise
3) Doing it by hand, cheap but time consuming:
Quote:

You need grits 320,600,800, and 1500 of Wetordry sandpaper, Mother's metal polish, a rag, Plastic polish, and a buffing wheel (I used a plug-in Black&Decker 7" 2 speed, 3/4 HP buffer).

Start off by removing the entire headlight housing from the car. Begin wetsanding the surface with the 320 grit and KEEP IT WET. Take your time and make sure you sand equally over all of the lense. Keep at it with the 320 until the rockchips are gone. Next, move on to wetsanding with the 600 grit, then to 800, and 1500. I took at least 7-10 minutes with each grit for best results. Now, the lense should look really fogged up and way worse than when you started. This is normal!

Take a cotton rag and use it to rub metal polish across the lense. Begin buffing it by hand using the rag. Be generous with the metal polish and put some muscle into it. Take at least 10 minutes with this stage.

Now the lense should look clear, but no very glossy. Take another rag and use it to smooth plastic polish over the surface of the lense. Now use the powered buffing wheel to buff the lense until all the polish is gone and the lense is looking glossier. With an amazing 3/4 Horsepower-powered wheel, I had to secure the headlight housing between my feet. Do this 3 or 4 times.

If you completed all of the above the headlight lense should look as good as new. Stick the housing back in, switch on your lights, and be amazed.. It looks clean yo!

its only noticable during low speed operations, like in a parking lot, during normal driving its really not that bad, id say remove everyghing, and see how you like it, if you don't like it, put it back on

to be honest with you I haven't ran him yet. He got kinda scared when I named off the tibby's new list of mods, but I don't think he has anything to worry about. Iv'e seen 2.4 swaps with full bolt on's, slicks, and mild cams in the 13's. it should be a good race though with stock cams and street tires. He's only had the car running for a month or so. as far as the A/C Im not for sure there either, I haven't worked on his car yet. I work on most all my other friends cars but his.

Yesterday I saw a ricer with a neon. It had the fast and furious wing and all. Sticks all over. The ricer used a minivan to break. lol

They can be pretty quick a friend tells me, but they aren't that reliable and they have worst crash safety ratings than our cavaliers.

If it'll take corrosion off of a battery then I'm assuming it'll take other crap off too. A can of coke will eat away an entire T Bone steak in 7 days.

yeah, until you get all the fluid out of the rack, it will be tough to steer, whats reccommended is to remove the pump, unhook and remove all the lines, and drive around town for a while to force the fluid out of the holes from the removed lines, and once the fluid is gone, cap the holes off
