My newest investment :)

After some difficult haggling within and then seperate from ebay and a bunch of BS with US Customs and DOT I finally got this into the country. It is a 1989 Alpina B10 3.5. For those that dont know Alpina is a BMW tuner that sells tuned cars as its own manufacturer with different VIN #'s etc. This car was imported from Japan to Vancouver and now I brought it into the US. I don't plan on selling it but its value should definitely be appreciating from now on. I still haven't figured out how to get it on the road yet. DOT wants me to put on 5mph bumpers...however I insist that the current bumpers meet all their standards. We will see. It has a 3.5 liter 251hp inline 6 and LSD Alpina also modified the suspension exhaust etc. I plan on leaving it completely stock. This is the cleanest 120,000km car I have ever seen. It literally looks like it came off the showroom floor...the pics dont really show becuase they are kind of small but u can get an idea.

That is wicked! I never knew anything about Alpina before. Hope you can get it all legal and stuff without too much modification.

If it's from Japan, was it ever RHD?

Cool car, keep it clean and nice.

I love it. Definately a rare find.

It is suspiciously clean for 120k.

Damn. Ultra nice Beeeemer.

I wonder if you could find some used USDM bumpers, put them on, get the DOT to okay it, then return the Alpina bumpers back on...?

The easier way is to get the build information from Alpina themselves and get them and BMW to confirm the bumpers on the car weren't modified during the re-build process.

That will take a letter from the company itself.

Im a little curious how much that ran ya?
I have never heard about Alpina before. To me it just looks like an old school Bimmer with a name written all over it. But ncie find if it is that rare of a car. And liek said, it looks rediculously clean for a car that old!

Very pimp, and I really like the engine. Inline 6s are sweet!

Nice, you need to pull numbers and cross check to make sure Alpina built the car and it wasnt altered after make. I had a Alpina go through my hands(I build and race 2002s and e21s.) Unfortunately, it was a post build Alpina(aka clone car.) Looks sick...have fun and baby the car their worth a ton to people like me!

Can I rephrase that?

If it is from Japan, why isn't it RHD?

Nice car, too. Though I disagree with the subject of your post... unless it is a classic/antique, a car typically is not an investment. This one might be borderline, though, I don't know.

The other day I was driving on the A6...I'm in Germany by the way so that's the autobahn...and was passed by a BMW with Alpina on the back? I was like WTF does that mean?? I now know!

Looks clean for sure and hope you get her all legal and on the road!

I have a few German friends who could write a letter or make an inquiry for you if you like to get some type of certification on the bumpers and stuff...hit me up on email and I'll see what I can do for you.

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

From what I can tell...the first owner imported it from Germany to Japan...Germany is LHD so I guess they just kept it that way instead of changing it...

As for its authenticity...from what I have learned from Alpina the VIN matches their records so it is authentic...

as for it being an investment...well we will see...ive been trying to get a hold of someone with an appraised value...insurance right now has no idea what to do with it so i dunno about them...but like greg x heart said....to the right people they can be worth a lot

So if you imported it to the US from Canada, did that mean you didn't have to go through all the effort of crash testing ten of them?

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.
