Yeah i never liked it. Nor do i understand how it can be considered a neon replacement. However the 2.4l S/C engine @ 300hp does sound appealing.

3 words: GOT IT WRONG.

They are obviously playing off of the success of the Magnum/Charger look, but honestly, those are a look for a totally different market. And true to say, what will be there next sport compact? Not this I guess.

Rumor has it, the next in line for sport compact is a turbocharged Neon with a bigger 2.4L motor.

Oh wait......

I just got the new Car And Driver yesterday and the Caliber placed second to last in a test of 7 small cars. Now I know that C&D tests should be taken with a grain of salt (and yes, an import DID win the test... the Honda Fit), but you can't deny the facts of the test, which is that the Caliber had the most power of the 7 but was tied for the slowest quarter mile time lol. Heaviness kills.

But they will make up for that with the SRT version.

Consumer Reports is always completely unbiased and conducts their tests in a fair and equal manner. </sarcasm>

Seriously now, a Fit versus a Vibe clone? 2 totally different vehicles.

I saw a commercial the other day with a black Caliber and I don't think they are too bad looking of a car. I read on LD9 Fury's post about the engine specs but I also thought they were doing a SRT-4 version of it too?

If I had to choose between the Caliber and the Jeep Compass (same platform) I would go for the Caliber.

Have a good one,
Justin

I don't give a crap what you guys say.

i think it's a good looking car. Inside and out. I like cars that are different (i'm partial also to the Scion xB, and Chev. HHR) and this one doesn't dis-satisfy. I would definitely put that on the list when I get a new car.

It was car & driver.

Its chysler's entrant in the small car market and the neon replacment. Not really car & drivers fault. In the test it did seem similar in size and features to the other 6 compacts. I agree it looks like a station wagon/suv/crossover thingy however.

I actually ran into my old Chrysler corporate rep from when i was working at Dodge on I-195 (not literally) as he was going home, in his loaner Caliber. I'll be honest with you, i was sketchy about the car from the pics but it DOES look a lot better in person. Still not great, but definitely not as fugly as i thought it would be.
