My gf has a 2004 Pontiac Vibe with a little less than 50k miles on it. She bought it used. We just went to the dealership and they tested the tray fluid, and it was brownish red. She is getting an oil change, how important is it for her to get the trany flush? The dealership will charge 160$, is that a good price. Or should we just see what color it is after the oil change?
What should she do??

$160 seems high. We had one done on our Isuzu and it cost us about $75. With 50K on it I probably would have the service done just to be on the safe side.
tranny fuild is dark red. whats it smell like?

Its dark red w/ a brownish hue to it. It doesnt have a burning smell to it, so that transmission is still going strong. My gf is a member of the vibe forums, they told her to get it done at a toyota dealership, is that true?
They said something about the dex-??? wasn't really good for it.

your fuild is fine.
toyota dealership? i dont see why.
just get it done at the dealer. smaller shops will probably just charger you and do nothing since youd never notice the difference.

50K is when Toyota says to flush the trans. I'd take it to a Merchent's Tire.
