how are these cars...the specs say they are slow...ok thats fine...are they reliable? hows the interior room? oh its an 01btw
All I know is they have tinkerbell door chimes.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
When I had my '99 Hyundai Accent GL, it ran flawlessly. I had no problems what-so-ever (despite people telling me that I would) in the 3 years I'd own it, and now that my mom has had it for the past two years, she's had no problems as well, which is well in contrast to the problems I've had with my Cavalier thus far. Grossly underpowered (87 - 92 hp, I think) but it serves it's purpose very well. Eventhough it's slow, you forget about it after driving it for a while...I know I did when I had to borrow it when my car was in the body shop for 3 weeks following my accident. Mine was comfortable as it could be for a big guy like myself and I can't complain about the ride. My car never acheived the MPG that was listed on the window sticker but acheiving about 300 - 320 miles (on average) with a 11.9 gallon gas tank is pretty good in my opinion. If I had to pick another subcompact in the same class as the Accent, I would pick the Accent over the other cars...just because of the reliable and good fortune I had with my first one.
However, that above was just talking about the '99 Accent I owned, I don't know how the newer ones run...just my personal opinion on what I previously owned.
they are very slow a girl at my work has a 98 i think. and hers is not so great on gas she tells me all the time it uses alot of gas. also they dont do so good in crashes. i saw a 2003 one get back backed into in my work parking lot by a dodge van nothing happen to the van but the accent got a broken bumber and was pushed out of its spot. i would rather have the aveo. it looks nicer and has a bigger motor. the new 07 ones look really nice.
I can vouch for the gas mileage on an Accent...I got no more than 24 - 25 per gallon on a tank of gas...which is a little shameful since something like that, in my opinion, should be hitting low to mid 30s (mixed driving) especially when cars in (and out) of its class was getting better MPG.

hahahaha, yeah they do. My friend had a 99 Accent and we use to rag on him all the time when we would ride with him.
The car itself wasn't too bad, it did the job that he bought it for and it was great on gas.
Have a good one,
Justin
well i bealive 00+ switched to a dohc motor....pumping out 105 hp
lol wow
slap on a low-compression head gasket, and boost the hell out of it... the alpha motor can take almost 300 whp on stock innies as long as you drop the compression a bit...
hyundai has really come around in the last 6-8 years or so, and if something does go wrong, there's so many in junkyards (from neglect or idiot drivers) that you won't have a problem finding a cheap replacement.

I bought an Accent in 97, brand new. In 2001 I traded it in for the z24 (big mistake there).. It had 190,000 KM's on it. The car never gave me much problems. And the problems I did have, the dealer took care of it right away, no questions asked. I love Hyundai's warranty.

lemme know if your lookin. cause mines for sale.
My sister drives one. Its total Sh*T. Every week she has to fix something in the engine. Not a very good car.

Ditto, my mom's '99 Hyundai Accent GL has been in my family for six years (3 years with me, 3 years with my mom - miscounted earlier) and so far there has been no problems, major or minor, with the vehicle. Even when Hyundai had a national callback a couple of years ago on the exhaust manifold (or something like that) they could find nothing faulty with our car. I think they are pretty good, dependable point A to point B cars and like every model out there, there may be a few that slip under the radar as far as quality...but that's no reason to condemn the entire model. I think one of the major issues that the poster of this thread might want to consider is that the trade in value for such a vehicle may not be great in the future. According to Intellprice, my mom's '99 Accent GL (which is in very good condition) with 70,500 is only worth $1,245 - $2,245 on a trade in, while KBB lists the same car with the same condition as only being worth $1,635 on trade in...of course this may be the normal value of the car because of the age. I don't know if the trade in value on the newer models have gone up, but if you're looking for something that retains decent trade in values...this may not be the car for you.
The years to aim for are the 90-94 years. Hyundai had the 4G63A engines in them. You could easily upgrade to the 4G63T from 1G DSMs.

my friend has a 2001 i think....it's been a POS since the day he got it, It's been in the shop at like 5 times. They gave him some bs when it had 30K that they wouldnt fix the problem which was causing the check engine light, so the warrenty is bull @!#$. like everything is wrong w/ that car, the seats suck, it's small as @!#$ inside, your like right up on the very short dashboard when your inside it, rides like junk
personally i i think it's one of the only cars that is a downgrade from a Jbody
