Title says it all. I've been looking for a new car...will not buy domestic.....30 grand or below. I like the new spider, but after adding the leather and premium package ground effects etc. 30,000??? Seems like a lot seeing as the base model eclipse starts at like 19,000. Anyone have any other suggestions in that price range? want something that can get up and go and needs to seat 4. I like the nissan 350Z until I found out it was a 2 seater......not practical. So would you buy the fully loaded spider for 30 grand? Comes in a covertable also.
rx8, g35 sedan, g35 coupe, lancer evo..... used 330... really anything you want could be had for 30k.... within reason
women are like cars you have to test drive the new one before you trade in the old one
In a word... NO. I have thought Eclipse's were overpriced since the last generation... if you want a 350Z with a back seat, look at the Infiniti G35.

Wont buy a domestic? Then you must not want to drive a fast car. You should probably get out of the country then.
As far as the eclipse for 30k, yea you might as well masturbate with sandpaper too beacuse none of that makes sence. You can prolly get a EVO or STI for cheap now. Infinity G35 does come in a four door model. But then again you could always find ur balls, pull em down and drive a domestic. You can easily get an 03, 04 Cobra with low miles for under 30 grand and it would own any import that has been said in this post but hey, thats just me.
I like the new eclipse but I think they put too much rake at the bottom of the side windows. Still a cool car but the 2nd gen will always be my favorite.
Import Vs. domestic aside, you're still looking at chucking $30k on front wheel drive.
"i promise we won't get drunk, and go out in boat in the dark, stand up in the boat and fire the gun into the air unless we have life jackets on."
seat 4 people in a eclipse , ahahahahahahhahahahahahaaa
your better off getting a 350z , youll have the same back seat room
the G35 would be a better way to go for the sedan , the coupe gives you a little more room than the 350z and a padded place to put your but
but both eclipse and g35 coupe have less back seat than a camaro or mustang
for 30k , if you gotta seat 4 and its gotta be import , wrx or evo
personally ill stick with my cav for 30k
I was looking at getting the 2006 Eclipse GS. Price is pretty decent. I don't want to go anymore than $22k for a car though. So my options are more limited. But as for the new Eclipses, IMO I think they look good.My budget is smaller than yours so I can't get the Spyder.
Acura TSX. That is my vote!

To which model (and trim...there is no GTS trim) are you referencing, the spyder (convertible) or the coupe, as there is a distinctive difference in pricing between of the two models. The coupe starts a little under $20,000 (GS) while the convertible starts around $25,400 (GS). If you are interested in the convertible, I can see how the price can reach $30,000 with options added (especially if you start pricing from the top of the line GT model). If you are looking for something practical, then I would say a coupe of any kind would be out of the running. I would say something like a Maxima, the G35 sedan, TSX, even Passat, or some other import sport sedan would be more practical than any two door sports coupe, foreign or domestic.
DO NOT BUY A MITSUBISHI.
My buddy has an 03 Eclipse GTS with EVERY option except manual transmission. And it is disgusting how Mitsubishi cut soo many corners to lower production costs. From the paint to the bolts. Everything is cheap as hell. Completely overpriced. Nice looking cars, but you'll be sorry.
My wife said that when she got her Eclipse back in 00' or '01, can't remember, she paid like $34K ttl. I was like...wtf! For an eclipse?!?!
She got the car in her previous marrage. Guy got it for her to apoligize for cheating on her. It was her dream car and all, but the pretenses ruined it for her...
I can't see paying more then $26K tops for that car fully loaded. You get up in $30K plus territory you need to compete with the BMW 330i. I wonder which is the better car for the money now?

Holy Cow! That's a lot to pay for a new '00-'01 Eclipse, and a very expensive apology if I do say so myself. I'm in the market for a new car myself, and I can't see myself spending more than $23,000 - $24,000 tops (before any down payment) on a new car. Luckily the ones I'm currently interested in, fit in my price range and the ones that don't, I can make fit in my price range about avoiding unnecessary items like factory body kits, dvd navigation and so forth.
I think the original poster can get an Eclipse (if he really wants it) but if he doesn't want to spend near $30,000 for it, he'll just has to trim some options hear and there.
guy said no domestic but im gonna suggest one anyways(:
pontiac g6 gtp. i have the gt version and am pretty happy with the car.
the only thing i dont like about it is the auto, but the gtp has the 6 speed available.
240hp for around 24 Gs.
Well, to start off with I came from a "chevy" family. Until I bought my first new car in 2002 I was also a chevy guy. After buying my cavalier dumping all that money into it and paying it off early to find out it was only worth like 5 grand after two years and 30,000 miles later..........anyway. Resale value, quality, dependability and the fact that here in Texas Toyota is building a plant to give Americans jobs while Gm and Ford are laying off thousands of Americans while producing a lesser product????? It doesn't take much more to make my decision.
The BMW ...been there done that I own an E90. Awesome car when it's running right. As soon as I get tired of fooling with it it's getting traded in for a lexus IS250.
Thanks for all your advice guys. I really knew it was too much for what it was but my fiancee has just fallen in love with it. This next vehicle is her graduation gift and we just can't figure out what to get.
I hear the 2007 Toyota camary is out and has like 260+hp and all the leather and luxury goodies not to mention a ground effects kit. Still too much of a family car. I don't know. Keep the suggestions coming.
I don't know what it is but I can't stand the mazda 6. I think the speed version is overpriced too. I test drove the regular one the responce on the pedal sucked ass. Not to mention.................FORD parts.
How about a Miata? haha
My vote is for the G35. I like the styling of it. not a fan of the mitsus. but I suppose if you have your heart set, then go for it.

Why not get a Mustang GT with 300hp (and no torque steer) for a couple grand more?

evo or sti awd= teh sex
If it doesnt break then you didnt drive it hard enough!
I drive an automatic, I'll race you... 1 hand and 1 foot.
Since when can you get a g35 for less than 30 k ? after tax you're looking at more like 40k (US). unless you're going used. You could get a new Saab 9-3 for less than 30.. those things are sexy. it's owned by gm but i think the fit and finish is lightyears ahead of chevys.
if you ditch the 4 seater idea i'd say go for a mk IV supra.. they have really dropped in price. you can find a TT 6 speed for close to 20 k these days.
Lui
TT? Ok I give up, What's the make?
-miata...LOL

Well thats because traitors
j/k like you decide that automatically just because you've had one bad experience that all american vehicles are crappy and buy a foriegn car. You want resale value than buy a domestic SUV or truck, 1989 Silverado's in good condition are still going for around $5,000 locally anyways. What do you expect from a bottom of the barrel economy car? Cavaliers, Escorts, Neons, Civics, Rio's etc... are all going to have @!#$ty resale value due to them being just cheap economy cars. later model Sunfire's and Saturn SL & SC series cars seem to hold their value better for some reason than the rest of their counterparts though. The new Buick LaCrosse is quite nice as well as a Caddy CTS however you'd have to look for a used CTS for under $30,000 or an Olds Aurora which definitley holds it's value, seen a 2001 with 35,000mi for $25,000
