My buddy was telling me about how fast his 2002 pontiac grand am is and when he opened the hood, Boy was I shocked! I didn't know that Grand Ams have the 2.2 Eco-Tec motors in them!!!! Now, did these cars come factory with the Eco-Tec, or was this a motor swap?
Watch out there nah!
they come with em from the factory

yep...also came with the 2.4tc...both4cyls were avalable with 5 speeds too
the Oldsmobile Alero came with the 2.2l Ecotec as well.
I diddn't think the grand am game in 5spd.......you learn something new every day.
I have one true love in my life...And my girlfriend sits next to me in it
and 99%sure the malibu too then...i donno how long the N-body cutless's lasted but if they went into 2002 they would have also
The Grand Am's base engine has been the J-Body's top engine for as long as I can remember.
And yes, they could all be had with the same 5-speed manual that the J's had.
Pretty stupid, especially considering Pontiac was supposed to be the "performance" brand, that they never offered a manual for the V6's. You'd have been better off buying the 2.4L 5-speed and supercharging it than buying the 170 hp V6 (175 hp with "ram air") and the slushbox.

More to the point, an Ecotec Grand Am is not fast by most definitions of the word.
ive seen a driven a 02 grand am eco 5spd , it was fun , wasnt as fast a the V6 or a cav , but it was more fun to drive , cause the handling is more improved than a cav , and not as nose heavy as the V6
Haha, maybe his memory just doesn't go back that far...

Ummmm, 1990-94 Cavalier Z24 - 3.1 V-6 Same era Grand Am. 2.3 4 cylinder.
Aha! In 1990-91, the base engine for the N-car wasn't the 2.3L; it was the 2.5L OHV. The 2.3L only existed in DOHC incarnation until 1992, when the 2.3L SOHC (*shudder*) became the base engine.
Gotta pick up for Weasel's lack of knowledge again.....
