ok, i can spend around 6k, cash. im tired of J's already, so both of my cars will be up for sale within 2 months. anyway, im looking for something newer than 2000. what other cars are out there that can get within my price range, aside from a J? Im only looking for 2 doors
heres some choices Ive narrowed it down to
1. 3g eclipse (ive seen a few in my town going for around 5 - 7k)
2. 3000 gt (this would nto be a new car though)
3. neon? im kinda iffy about this one
4. any other car u can think of...
or, i have another alternative
give a 4k down payment for a more expensive car, then use the remaining money to buy a body kit/wheels
options:
1. cobalt (non ss)
2. tiburon
3. celica
4. what else? (cheap cars, im not talking about cars over 15k)
then again, i dont think i wanna deal with car payments

I know you said you wanted a 2 door car. But I would look for a Contour SVT you maybe impressed. I got a 95 Mustang GT Convertible for $6k. Look around and dont jump at the first thing you see. It took me 6 months to find my stang.

^^i hadnt thought about a contor, a while back i was considering getting one they were selling me for 600 bucks, and older one. but it needed alot of work, exterior/interior.
windshield, body work, brakes, interior was messed up, i decided it just wasnt worth it and bought me a 2nd gen cav a month ago. but now i dont want it, which is why im selling that too, after it gets a paintjob.

mazda protege (02 or 03) would be in the 8-10 range
but you could boost that fairly easily
or a miata! that would be a nice car, really small tho
I'm getting a 2001 VW golf TDI in a couple weeks. I'm going to put a sound system in it, fuel injectors, a front mount, exhaust and a computer reflash which should put it at around 200hp and 300ft/lbs of torque out of the little 1.9 turbo diesel. That is going to be my new daily driver as I start chopping apart the sunbird further. Eventually I am selling oth cars and buying a Lotus Exige.
Check out the VW turbo diesels though.. they get aroun 50 miles to the gallon and don't look half bad with a little body work (which we all know you are capable of.)

Soo true, my older bro gets so annoyed with the people on Contour.org that think their cars are the best vehicle ever made. Hes got a 1999 Contour SVT(I think) , well made car though.

Why would you not want to look for an 8 cylinder?
With the right gear ratio, a 3rd gen Camaro can get mileage just as good as those cars you have listed.
All those options Suck.
You are still dealing with bottem feeder grocery getter entry level econo-boxes.
If youre gonna sell the J-body... then upgrade.

lol^^ that has nothing to di with it. the reason im mostly sticking to lower end cars is because of the money issue, 6k is NOT alot of money. but then again, i dont want it to be odler than 00, having said that. the only cars in my price range, newer than 00 are low end cars
.reasons why i dont want a J:
1. ive had 3
2. resale value sucks balls
3. dash rattles like a mutha, squaks also
4. The J is the lowest of low end cars when u really think about it, so basically, even if i got a focus stationwagon (iim not planning to), it would still be an upgrade
my parents have sort of convinced me to leep my cav another year, just so i finish college. save money, and buy me a brand new car to take me to and from the university. and of course, to enjoy.
so i dont know, its a huge dilemma. If i keep my cav, i know im going to wanna keep dumping money into it, and thats exactly what I DONT want to do. a while back i sorta opened my eyes and realized how big of a money pit my cav has been! and trust me after realizing that, and knowing that u spent over 6k on a car that isnt worth a dime, its enough to make u hate ur car lol

my buddy has an 88 skylark, the odometer hasn't worked for a year and a half (and it says 133,xxx miles) and he will regularly run it out to 55mph in first gear for fun. another of my friends had a ford festiva which he would tip over in the mall parking lot just so he could see peoples' reactions to a car laying on its side. i'm looking at an 87 turbo t-bird for $500, so then i can sell my cav and use the money i made off of it to buy a 66 mustang project.
which brings me to my next point about POS cars being the best: you can buy 5 or 6 for the same price as 1 nice car. OR, you can have 1 POS, a motorcycle, and a project car. OR, any other combination of the sort.
plus, you don't have to clean a beater or worry about dents/dings/broken stuff. blue smoke coming from the exhaust? so what. no exhaust? who cares. a family of chipmunks living in the backseat? give them names.
and then there's the insurance issue - who needs anything other than liability on a beater? it's not like anyone's gonna steal it or break into it.
so, in conclusion, my advice would be to go to autotrader.com, search for all vehicles for less than $1000, and make your next purchase from there
I tend to agree with the upgrade crowd here. Get something that's an improvement over an economy car, like a used lexus or audi. If you have two cars then sell one and save for a much better car. If you want better resale value then domestics aren't for you.

i agree you can find some nice pos's for cheap that run forever.....but at the same time some are just a pos, nothing worth it... i mean look at j's the new ones are , bottom line
and dont last as long as 1st gens...cars are not built the same way as they used to be...they are not built to last...i like pos's i was raised off of buying and selling them..but now i want something new...something worth it...just like this person does...so i say enough with the pos..and get something new...wait and save your money and buy at the right time...my suggestions,....

1. 1986 buick skylark <--- looks like @!#$, but runs like a champ, even the AC works
2. 1986 nissan maxima <--- fresh new paintjob, runs like a champ, AC doesnt work
3. 1986 toyota corolla <--- runs, but smokes like a mutha, looking for time to take it to the junkyard
then I have my 2nd gen cav, which is just getting painted
and my pink cav.
so I dont really NEED a car, the thing here is that I WANT a new car.. but yea, i think im just gonna wait out one more year and buy me a spankin brand new car
