There was a post a while ago with a stock Cobalt SS that made 215 wheel-hp stock. I saw this on superhonda.com recently and thought I'd share. On superhonda they claim it made 226 wheel-hp, also stock. You can barely see at the end of the video that the curve is slightly above 225 hp, so it should be about 226 whp.

RSX Type-S vs. Cobalt SS
RSX won by about half a car-length

I would have thought you would be directing that comment towards the Cobalt SS that lost the race having more hp and tq.
Acura typs S- Curb Weight: 2840 lbs- 201 hp and Torque: 140 ft-lbs-
Fuel Tank Capacity: 13.2 gal
so lets say with these mods it was 208 hp and 150ft ( being very nice)
Cobalt SS - Curb Weight: 2991 lbs- rated 205hp and Torque: 200 ft-lbs
Fuel Tank Capacity: 13 gal
So assuming two equally full gas tanks etc.....how the hell does it lose this race...i mean let be serious ??? @!#$ty drive...it should wiin the the estimated stock #'s anyway cuse its only 100 pounds heavier?
if it put down 225 hp there is NO way it would lose....its basically defies physics so
im not defending it for any real reason just in general..the RSX is a great car, very nice interior! and its a 6 speed!

There are still plenty of other variables that a 225hp car will lose to a 208hp car. The way the gear ratios are set up, aerodynamics of each vehicle, as stated above power / weight ratio.
Have a good one,
Justin
They should do it again at an actual 1/4 track. Racing from a roll on the freeway isnt the best way to measure which car is faster unless one is devastatingly more powerful.

Actually highway racing is a measure of a cars power over another. 1/4 mile is a test of traction or lack of.
True. But since their power is so similar (albeit like a 20hp difference), I feel the 1/4 would at least give us some numbers. That is, as opposed to determining who won based on who slowed down first due to traffic, rev limiter, pulled ahead, etc.
In a nutshell, its more monitored than a highway race, and there is a definite end point. I have a feeling it was a drivers race though, and perhaps gearing like Justin mentioned.

Highway racing with cars with THAT similar of a power will tell you nothing other then who is quicker to react to the 3rd honk or who left first.
Highway or roll racing RARELY gives a even/clean race.

Yeah it sounds good on paper but when I ran one with his mods on vid its a drivers race. The hp is there for the cobalt but it s also got a lot of rotating mass on those damn wheels. 45 pound a piece 18inch wheels hurt.

Sorry but I dont agree. Especially with the last sentence.

So your telling me the guy honking doesn't know when he is going to do the 3rd honk?? (advantage to him) He isn't going to leave on or before that second?? (another advantage to him) The person he is racing is going to know exactly when the 3rd honk is? (his disadvantage) And BOTH of them are going to leave at
EXACTLY the same time?? (not likely to happen)
There is really no way for a even start with a roll race. It CAN happen but rarely does. A even start would involve a light and a timing system but that would involve stopping and also learning how to launch which takes skill which alot of roll racers simply don't have.

I agree if the above case involves 2 similiarily powered cars with similiar sopecs.. but if one car has a lot more power then if the other one gets a little jump there still isnt a chance...

Rsx's stand no chance stock for stock, I"ve smoked a few of them with relative ease from a dig.
I've beaten lt1 camaro's, l-98 corvettes, and GT mustangs at over a car's length as well.
For 600 bucks you can get a 270WHP on a stock cobalt, there's a package for sale by a few vendors which include new fuel injectors, supercharger pulley, computer upgrade. There's a stage three just released, still awaiting dyno numers but it will be well over 300 whp for roughly 1000 bucks.
These ecotec engines are incredible powerplants. People can talk sh!t on four bangers all day long, but the ecotec can put out incredible power and run very smoothly and effeciently.
Even my old C5 vettes (99 vert, 00 vert) both had oil ring issues and rocker issues both within 35k of hard driving miles. I've yet to have a problem with ANY of my ecotecs.
I love this little car, and plan on enjoying it after installing my stage 2 for a few years.
THEN IM GETTING THE NEW CAMARO, I WILL DEFINITELY OWN THIS CAR!!!
Do those stage kits VOID teh warrenty???/
i have always wondered that?
Thanx Charles

I'm not telling you anything, its just my opinion. You got yours, so there's no point arguing.
If roll racing isn't a fair determination of which car is faster in this case because one of them might get the jump, then how is racing from a dig any different? One of them might get the jump off the line and that's essentially saying the same thing: somebody got the jump so they didn't leave at the exact same time. This wasn't a discussion of who could launch the car better (racing from a dig) it was about which car was faster, which is better determined by a roll race. Now if somebody gets the jump in a roll race and doesn't pull ahead and the cars stay at the same distance apart, then it's safe to say the cars are pretty equal, in which case you could compare MPH in the 1/4, not necessarily the 1/4 times.
