Chevy officials at the chicago auto show aren't comfirming that a higher-performance version of the Corvette Z06, called Blue Devil, is under development. But they certainly are not downplaying the possibilities.
Sources say the Blue Devil might go with a supercharged version of the Z06's 7.0-liter V8, producing upward of 600 hp. Look for lightweight carbon fiber body parts to reduce weight to about 2900 pounds.
Pricing will likely start somewhere around $100,000 if and when the car makes production in 2007.
"We'd love to have it," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.
"My guess is we're going to find a way to do something beyond the Z06, that would be at a much higher price point, and which would compete with some of the leading high-performance cars of the world,'' GM vice chairman Bob Lutz said last July.
One other hot rumor swirling around Detroit: Camaro produciton has been moved forward, from 2009 to 2008 too.

As in cars will start rolling off the line in 2008? Or 2008 is the first model year for the Camaro?
I'd take a Blue Devil.
yeah there used to be a picture on here...it looked sick and well..id prolly sell a kidney for it....

the current z06 is not far behind the ford gt at this point. and for the price difference... there isn't much to think about.

in handling, the GT is in a much higher class
power wise, the gt is maybe a little bit ahead
i think if GM wants to build a 100k+ 600hp+ beast, they should start with a new platform, rather than upgrading the corvette. it just doesnt seem like such a car would sell that well.

going to a new platform isin't a bad idea, however the c6 platform has been proven in many theaters or racing and is capable of going well byond its current form
hell, people have already begun modding c6's and zo6 c6's and the chassis responds remarkably well

I don't actually read your posts
I stare them down until they give me the information I require
Geez I had to check the date on this as I thought it was from last year ! Now for a chocolate chip cookie what name is GM kicking around the idea of useing ? ( insert jepordy music here ) :::Hint::: Its NOT Blue Devil.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
So any guesses for the name ?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Is that a guess ?

Try Corvette SS.

No surprise that is the rumored moniker as thats the consistency Chevy is putting on all their performance cars/trucks.
GrandSport was another flying around as that has some heritage as well.

Grand Sport would work too but accordingto the sorces that Motor Trend quote look for
it to where the familer SS on its fenders.
Oh and BTW, the current Z-06 gives the Ford GT a run for its money and beats the viper down. This car is aimed higher then Ford or Dodge. Think Germany and Itialy.
If Chevy builds this thing look for the only thing to beat it costing 1.5 million , Bugatti.
Beyond that nothing from Germany or Itialy could touch it. And bang for the buck ? Hell
even if it came in at $125,000.00 it would still be a bargin when compaired to what its going after.

If Chevy is falling into the hole so bad with sales and marketing and their losing all these millions of dollars, why would they make a super-car that will barely sell?? Given, its a Corvette and the Corvette name alone is known in every car market, but why would they put so much money into a car that people will barely buy? The new Z06 was a big kick, but for the price, the power was insane, but now they are making a car thats almost $30K more then the Z06?? Kind of an awkward marketing method if you ask me . . .
Cause basicly all GM needs to do to build this car is drop the CR a point or two and slap
a supercharger on it. Maybe a new hood. But thats hardly gonna break the bank as far as research dollers go. The first car sold would pay for that.

There not going to make money off it. Most sports cars are more of a bragging rights/advertising thing anyway and the low production volumes means you usually spend more on engineering, factory retooling, and advertising then you make by selling 500 cars a year at a slight profit. Also explains another reason the mustang is still around and the camaro was canned, peformance doesn't make you money. However it is tempting to do as it would take only an extra 100-150hp and some weight savings to make it supercar-like in numbers. Though most of the exotics will be getting makeovers too.

Motor Trend: Tabloid Magazine in my book.
The C6 Z06 has the exotic cars beat (under) $200K range and will give a run for its money on the (over) $200K exotics (Carrera GT, SLR, Murcilago)
My biggest gripe, all this power and how to put it to the ground. If the engine was in the mid-section or back, then it would be helpful, but AWD is going to be needed here---seriously.
My C5 Z06 has traction problems as is, so I know the C6 Z06 is worse, so I can't imagine a 600+HP S/Ced Vette.
Lets see how GM does this, because I know for a fact GM has the engine as I've seen the production sheet for a LS9 and GM is working on a new DOHC V8 too.

Chevrolet is looking at adding a Corvette model with more horsepower than the 505-hp Z06, says Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.
"We look at what Z06 has done in the marketplace, and we can't keep them in stock," Peper said at the Chicago Auto Show. The 2006 Z06 carries a $65,690 sticker price, including destination.

The Z06 is such an amazing performer it's hard to imagine anything better but add 30+ k to that car it's scary to think how fast and responsive this blue devil would perform.
Guess we have to play a wait and see approach!
