I've noticed a lot of people on here seem to have gone from a J-body to a Scion tC. So I was figured (since I have nothing better to do at work) why not see who else has one and what do you think so far?
I just got my 2006 Scion Flint Mica tC December 28th and just passed the 1000 miles mark last week. It's still early, but so far I've loved just about every second of the car. It rides so much smoother than the cavalier ever did (even at 110mph).
I finally did my first mod this weekend and installed the DC Sports Strut bar. I have the TRD springs, and was going to do them at the same time, but alas the Hotchkis directions were wrong and I needed a 22mm socket rather than a 21. So, until at least next weekend, I'll be at stock height.
I only have a few things to gripe about so far. First off, why are the pedals so damn close together? The manual is not very friendly to those with size 13 shoes, or at least not me. Second is 3rd gear... I've missed it a few times, and apparantly so have a few others on Scionlife. I'm thinking a Short shifter will be on order in the future. I was also told the back seats are uncomfortable, despite having plenty of room. Oh well, I don't ever plan to be riding bitch anyways.
So who else owns (or is financing) a Scion tC? What do you think so far?
i laugh at the guy here in phx with 1 , he has the trd s/c , and is lucky to run low 15's
the best i heard he made was a 14.9 , and its a 5spd
My boss has one he's 40 somthing he just passed the 10,000 mile mark and still loves it but says he's gonna trade it in, in a few years.
I have one
I love it to death, 11,000 since May and still has the new car smell!
No problems, except with a tire, but thats Ohios crappy roads fault.
I agree with the pedal complaint though, I also wear a 12-13 and have had that issue.
^^^^^ there are some dealers that sell used Xbs so maybe you could get a slightly used TC???
yeah, i hear people say that they are slow, but i beg to differ. While my Z was an Auto and this is a stick, this car feels faster, and is smoother getting to speed than the Z ever was.
I like all the options for the price, which was my main selling point. Also, i had wanted a biger car, but the backseat is large, i am 6 2 and can sit comfortably in the back. There are 4 door cars that i can barely sit in the back in, so thats one reason i liked it better than the competition. In my Z, i had the seat scooted all the way back and only a 5 year old could sit behind me

I'll agree, the $3,200 + install (to keep the 5 year warranty in tact) isn't worth the 40 hp... However, those who do not care about the warranty have had some great success with turboing their cars (or using larger pulleys with the S/C). And, I believe there are already 4 or 5 kits out for them... WAAAYYYY more support than I'm used to with the cavalier.
I bought this car for it's multitude of options as well.. but I also bought it b/c of potential resale value. #1 Its a Toyota product. #2 Scion limits the production of the vehicle (2005 had under 75,000 tC's sold, probably could have sold 110,000 if they kept them on the dealers lots).
While I may be upside down in the loan right now (what new car isn't when you dont put any money down), this car will depreciate a lot less than, say a Mazda 3

, thus in 3 -4 years, I may actually come out on top of the loan (I pay a little extra each month). That's something I could never say about the cavalier.
but yeah the car is fun to drive as well... It feel really solid, no rattles. It may not be the quickest car out there on the road, but it moves through traffic just fine and is quite resonsive IMO (besides, I just came from a 96 2.2... it wasn't hard to go up from there!)
sure surprised a mustang at a roll

^^
Thanks for the sig, Blakout.
ive beat a 5spd Tc in my auto cav before i put the s/c on it
my cav ran consistant 16.1's 16.2's , and a best of 16.0
the 5spd Tc ran a high 16's and low 17's , that whole night
also i went from 16.0 to 14.38 with just the addition of the s/c
i kinda like the Tc's , but i can see getting a car note for 1
when my cav has over 100,000 and is still going strong
Funny thing about the TC is you can get it with a supercharger but not a turbocharger. So why did they name it TC?

I like to think that is foreshadowing events to come after my warranty is gone
TC = Total Crap.

SUPERFASSSSTZ wrote:^^^^^^^^^id kill for a sicon T/C but they dont sell them here. and if you really want one bad enough you MIGHT be able to talk the toyota dealer in to TRYING to get you one. but it will take at least 6 months and cost an extra couple of grand.
it sucks the US gets all the good cars.
It is against both Toyota and Scion for them to over charge you on the car by even a PENNY! Call corprate Toyota and turn the dealer in, 99.999% they will never ever sell a Scion again.
I loved my TC till the deaership @!#$ it up and i had to trade it in

You're just mad that, depsite costing less right now, in 3 years my car will be worth more than your Peon.... errr Ion

Since you can't get TC's in Canada, I really don't care..

And my Ion has been great so far, I dunno why people knock on them so much.. Much better looking than a Cobalt imho..
