I was sorta loaned a 1989 Toyota supra..I don't much want to go into the history, but it has a larger than stock turbo, injectors, and MAF.
Now, my dad had this car for almost a year now..he's put somewhere around 300 miles on it..he had a bad accident..not in the car...and was out for about 6 months, so it just sat there. I'd start it occassionally, but was busy with school so didn't come home for a couple months.
The car had not been run for about 3 months and the battery was dead, recently we dropped a new battery in and it fired right up..but I'm worried that the boost info wasn't saved. Any thoughts?
Reason I ask is because I was messing around and wasn't paying attention..I gunned it and glanced at the boost gauge and it was more than 15..it made a bogging sound and I let off and it's fine. I'm assuming it has a limp mode. Either way, I've been driving it off and on for about 3 months since the last incident with boost and have yet to go above 5 psi.
So, in short, does the Profec unit store the info? If not..can I get some quick and direct instructions on how to mess with it? Can't seem to find the instruction booklet

I believe it resets after the bat has been disconnected too long. Just like when your head unit loses presets if the batt is out too long. I know it comes programmed from the factory on all very low settings..so I couldn't tell you why it spiked. You need to start by checking what it's set at now. Use the select button and see whether it's in Hi or Lo boost mode. If it's in Hi mode it's possible that some settings may be off. Just run through it and see what everything is set at....and don't get too happy with that knob. I've had a bit of experience with the Profec in my buddy's Eclipse....it's not too hard to setup

Alright, I'll take a look at it tonight. I was freaking worried as hell when I got the spike..it just rocketed before I knew it! But who knows. I'll let you know what's up with it for further advice, ty for the quick response.
While we're at it....the car was originally dynoed with an american 1jz..it blew and the original owner put in a jap 1jz, and didn't drive it a whole lot after that. Just to be safe, I'd really like to take a look at A/F ratios since I'm probably buying this off my old man. BUT, he had the S-AFC programmed and locked..and I lost the code..and the guys number

I have a profec B, it stores peak boost and will not reset when the power is disconnected. It also has a safety feature that reduces boost by a certain percentage when boost rises over the programed limit.
Then it must have been on the high setting..My dad is the kind of old timer that likes to just press buttons....

Like I said it's not too hard to figure out...you just have to play around with it for a little while....drive it around a bit and get into that boost...if it spikes, adjust the gain a notch or 2 lower. Also make sure that your max boost is something reasonable...ok im done...you may resume your life

Lol, thanks guys. Now what I'm wondering is the boost is set in % value. What is that a percentage of? It's at 25% for Lo and 35% for Hi. It's really easy to work with, but I'm just not sure what those numbers should be set at..I suppose I could go play with it and find out, but I'd rather have someone give me some more info...

yeah...the percentage is the boost value....0% being minimum boost and 100% being maximum. Turning the knob will set the percentage where you like. It's easier to interpolate if you have it set for us crazy Americans in PSI mode...otherwise it shows settings and boost numbers in kPa.....it's nice if your a communist. Now the gain is also shown as a % value. As I said before..that you need to play with and adjust to the driving style

Lol, well I'm not working with the red party...anymore..muwahahaha. Yeah, that was the first thing I messed with. I changed it to PSI..it's weird though because it doesn't do it like 10psi or 12.5psi..it's 100 and 125. Oh well, better than 0.blah kpa..
