mustang vs eclipse

Okay.... why the hell is a mustang considered a sports car but an eclipse isnt?! When clearing I dogged the hell outta my eclipse and got it doing triple digits..... and you can do the same w/ a mustang?!?!

My insurance charges me $1,278 a 1/2 for a 2001 Eclipse
and $1,248 for a 1997 Mustang....

wtf is with that?!?!

are u serious? ive had a base model 86 escort in the triple digits in traffic no less, does that make it a sports car too. no, it makes me an idiot. think about it.

Sports car = 2 seater.

Mustang = Pony car. 2+2 seating which makes it not a sports car.

As for why it cost more to insure a Ecplise vs. a Mustang. The Mustang is older, and the Ecplise is driven by alot of young kids who don't know how to drive and do stupid @!#$..

top speed doesnt make a car a sports car.

a 2001 eclipse is smaller than a mustang, therefore if it were to be involved in an accident it would b emore likely to have more damage than the mustang, and they're owned by young kids

a 1997 stang is quicker than an eclipse, and is also driven by kids. so the majority of crashes in a mustang happen at higher speeds, therefore causing more damage.

price also has to do with average price of a repair. you're not going to pay the same ammount of insurance on a car that's quarter pannel costs $150 as one that costs $500.

and man, you're getting buttraped on both rates. i pay around $500/6 months for my GTP

I'd really like to know how you get those kind of rates on your GTP. I got quoted around 1500/ 6 months on a 99' GTP. I currently pay 1728/6 months on my malibu. You're only a year older than me, and I have a clean driving record.

smwklm03, i know. but it's still a lot, even if it's there for a reason. oh, and (not tryin to be an ass, just helpin) the quote button at the top of everyone's post will put what they said into the reply box at the bottom with [ quote] [/ quote] around it. you can edit inside that to what you want to quote the person, and then you dont have to type the name, and it'll pop up in a quote box, so we know you're quoting someone

i do have good news, though

i just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to geico... really. that's how i got my rate

i was thinking of switching from progressive to this new auto insurnace called esurance. i got quoted from them when i had the cavvy to be about ~900 a year and i was paying ~1100 a year on te cavvy.

When I was looking into quotes, one of the cars i looked into was a 99 Eclise GS, and they wants payments of about $210 for LIABILITY only cause they considers it a "high risk sport compact", yet I'm paying on my 05 Cavalier for full coverage, at $207 a month, and the car is only considers a "coupe". So you explain the different in size or speed between a 99 Eclipse GS & an 05 Cavalier, and tell me why insurnace was THAT different, lol

insurance for my cavi was more than my GTP, even though the GTP's faster. compacts arent cheap. especially sporty ones. and my above rate is for full coverage, $500 deductable

well i suppose my 100$ deductible could explain my higher rates then

My deductible is $500 and my payments are still $207/month. This sucks. Can't wait until August when I turn 21 and my rates drop.
