considering getting an SRT-4
Sunday, January 22, 2006 10:23 AM
Well Schroder in Benton Harbor Michigan just got in an Electric Pearl Blue 04 SRT-4 with 20,000 miles on it. I had to take it for a test drive and it was pure perfection. Has the viper seats and is in beautiful condition inside and out. They are asking $11,000 and I got them down to $9,000 + tax, title, and license. I am seriously considering parting out the good stuff like intake and whatever from my car and selling or trading in my car for the SRT-4. I am just looking for opinions on what I should do here. I think that $9,000 for a car like that is a steal. Also yes I have looked into insurance and being 20 it will cost me $867 which is lower than my cavy! Again any input on this subject is greatly appricated.

Thanks,
-Paul

Cheaper then your Cavy . . .? I'd like to know how a turbo-charged sport car, is cheaper then an economy car when it comes to insurance

The price sounds awesome though, I would do it.

I'm not to sure how its cheaper either but I figure I'll probabaly end up getting one. I've wanted one since they first announced that they were coming out. I figure $9,000, why not?

When I got my quotes for the srt they were about the same for each car... Bc my insuance company considers the z24 to be a "high performance car"

Go for it ... When I took my test drive I was sold...

just me personally but i would never buy a used SRT4. It just seems like those cars get abused by alot of young drivers.

9000 is pretty awesome deal. Just dont turn into one of those srt-4 drivers who think there king of the road and drive like a-holes (theres alot of them around here).

It was the same way when I got my GTO... my insurance stayed the same going from a 1999 Z24 with 150hp to a 2004 GTO with 350hp lol... I wasn't going to complain.

How old are all of you???

When I got my insurance quotes, I was told this . .

05 Scion TC: $325/month (full coverage)
99 Eclipse GST: $260/month (JUST liability)

Thats one of the reasons I went to my car. I pay $207/month for mine now. My driving record is perfect, no accidents, tickets, etc. How the hell are you guys getting these awesome rates?!

I'm 23 years old and pay $80 a month for full coverage on my GTO, and $20 a month for just liability on my truck. I have accident free, no tickets, multiple cars, and college graduate discounts. Oh yeah I have State Farm.

I'd do it if it is really an SRT-4. You sure it isn't a neon sport with a sticker or something. LOL

I'm in with this guy

you have no Idea how many srt4's I have seen with tennage drivers that do nothig but spin the tires, sidestep the clutch, and redline the @!#$ out of them. then, if they have extra cash to spare, the get an adjustable bov and put WAAAYYYY more boost through that motor that it should have. especially on a stock intake, exaust, ic, pump gas, and tune

Hey now don't ruin this guy's excitement... most likely if the rest of the car was taken care of, then it probably wasn't beat on... plus these cars are pretty tough. Anyway, for 9 grand, he can afford to do some maintenance or repairs a couple years down the road.

I say go for it as well, that's a great deal.

The lower insurance rates could be because companies, like Geico, automatically charge more for insuring coupes than sedans. Statistically, drivers of coupes tend to be younger and more aggresive than sedan drivers(where in the world did they get that idea?). I haven't had a moving violation in over 15 years and I still pay about $90.00 a month.

A little word of advice, dont get a used SRT-4. You may think your getting a good deal, but you get what you pay for, especially for 9 grand. There has to be a reason its being sold for $11K. The cheapest one I have found was an 03 with 28K miles on it and they wanted $14K.

I'm sorry but an adjustable BOV is not going to raise boost, you might be thinking of a WGA (waste gate actuator). Also the stock block can handle 500whp, at 25-30psi on big turbo kits. Its been proven time and time again.

The stock intake, exhaust, and intercooler, will handle 275-300whp before its time to upgrade.

My cavy insurance is close to the insurance on my vette. SRT4 was close too.

I would test drive the srt4 very well, see if it misses, be sure the gears and clutch feel good, ect. A good test drive will tell alot about how a car was driven. I test drove an srt4 that would barely go into 2nd gear, it would grind like crazy. The front tires were slick, the car had 3000 miles on it. Those cars were built tough.

I would buy one for 9k. I have seen some locally going for 11k to 12k with 40,000 miles, I think they were pretty good deals. Of course owners will yell that the car has had the crap beat out of it if it sells for less than 15k, but truthfully, they are not worth alot. The KBB trade in value is between 9500 and 12000. I have always paid less than trade-in for my cars, always. Just have to look. I would definately look for signs of abuse, that is a very good deal "too good" almost. Cars requiring premium gas are not in big demand right now either. GET IT!
