Q about Nissans (G35/350Z)
Monday, January 16, 2006 9:02 AM
I'm just wondering what everyone thinks of the G35 vs. 350Z.

I KNow they're more or less the same, (350Z 2 seater, G35 2+2) but I'm wondering what the difference in upgrades is.. Basically, can you take a Tein Suspension kit for the 350Z and mount it into the G35 Sedan? Is there that much difference in clearance with the G35X & G35 coupe?

I'm going to have a enough money to buy a used 350/G35coupe/sedan by the end of this year, and I'm just starting to plan out how I want to stage out the build

if you go to teins website and check out the specifications i think you will find out that everything is the same part number.

I personally think the g35 looks so much better then the Z. Everyone that i've seen driving a 350Z, look completely miserable and scrunched in. Kinda like "fatguy in a lil car", LOL.

My father had a z for about 2 years and i drove it probably more than he did. I loved it. The exhaust note is friggin great. I was kinda cluastrphobic (sp) in it though. Mainly because of how high the door come up. There was plenty of room though, I never felt cramped one bit and niether did my father who is a big guy. You cant really roll down the window and rest your arm. I do like the looks of the G35 better though. Back seats are a plus even though they are useless to everyone but children. But the Z looks more pissed off to me.

Blurred: Thanks I guess what I was asking is if the same Part is used across the line with the G35 Coupe/Sedan and 350Z.

The thing that I'm wondering about is that I've seen a Supercharger kit (I think from Vortec) and it was for G35/350Z but not the G35X. I was a little perplexed, but I figured it has to do with the Trans taking up more room... That got me thinking about other differences.

Exodus & Drew: I'm not a small guy (6'1" over 250) but, I've never been one to drive with an arm out the window...

If I went for the coupe, I think I'd lean towards the G35 just because the 350 is harder on insurance because it's a 2 seater. I'm not committing to anything yet because I'm still researching... I'm not going to have another false-starter like the Golf I had about a year ago. I'm leaning towards a G35 sedan only for practicality, I still miss having a coupe.

i remeber going to importfest once in toronto a few years back. there was a Z with a hood missing off of it in the corner, so me and my friend went to check it out.

was at a dealer set up, one of the downtown nissan ones. lets just say, that car looks mean without a hood on it, especially when the reason is because it has a big ass supercharger on it.

injection is nice, but id rather be blown.

I loooove the G35. The Z tends to have more of the sorts car appeal. When I look at a G35 I think Performance/Luxury...I've seen some damn good lookin 35's too. It's also a little different, cuz you see alot more 350's.

The G is SO much better looking than a Z. But I'm biased since I'm a infinti tech The Suspensions are the same between all three cars. There are lots of people putting stock Z springs on the G's and there getting about a half inch drop out of it. Theres also alot of people putting Z lowering springs on G's because the springs rates are different. The Z suspension rides softer. I just lowered a G coupe on Tokico D spec's and the thing rides SO nicely now.

As for the super chargers. The differences is just clearance in the front of the engine .The trans doesnt make a difference. I installed a vortech kit on the same coupe I lowered. The only Z's or G's that the kit wont clear on is the early 03's that have a mechanical fan, but even then you can just swap the a electric fan. The reason nothing is really available for the G35X, is just the drive train. From what I've rad there just isnt the want for X cars.

The G I did got 330Whp on 7psi and its a auto

I'm looking at newer cars right now and I would love to have a G35 coupe its a badass car

ecotecpower: that's what I was thinking...

I have figured that the G35X had the front drive portion, and that would alter the clearances... Either way, I'm not concerned just yet. If I decide I'm going to go with forced induction I'll see what options are available then... I'm figuring I'll stage the build up with suspension and rims/tires, then brakes and lines, and then engine work. I want to keep this as a daily driver in "inclement weather" (we get as low as -45 with wind chill, and as high as +35 celsius in the summer), so I'm not going to go ape @!#$ with the turbos or superchargers or anything.

Considering we pay almost $4 a gallon for premium, I'm not going to be itching to get into the higher test (94+) fuels either

The X will only have clearance issues with a twin turbo kit. Single should fit since the passenger side exhaust is routed back and over the trans to the drivers side. A FI X would be sick

I was thinking about the Vortec kit, but it was listed as not for the X...

I guess if worse comes to worst, I could mess up the hood with the Stillen kit.

I've installed both kits. I'll tell you the same thing I told my customer that I did the vortec for.Do you want it to look cool are actually have some power? Having to change the hood costs more because of paint and the Stillen kit cost quite a bit more than the vortec. The stillen kit has a coolant to air cooler as where the vortec has a actual FMIC. On the stillen car I did the car has intake, headers, exhaust and the stage 2 kit. It made a whole 263RWHP. While on the same dyno on the same day a stock 350 made 230. Granted the altitude i'm at doesnt help and having headers with stillens kit is a VERY bad idea. Other cars in this area with the stage 2 stillen kit are averaging 290.

The vortec car i did got 330RWHP. All he has besides the charger is exhuast and light weight pulleys. That car is such a sleeper. I'll try getting some good pics of it and posting them

G35 Coupe, 6spd

Nothing Else.

If youre looking at the sedan version.... why?

Buy a Lexus.

I agree to. BUT a auto with the valve body upgrade is sick to. And its cheaper than replacing a clutch and flywheel. Then a clutch every 30 k IF your nice to it

Jinxed: I wouldn't buy a peasant Lexus, and they don't appeal to me (other than the IS300, but that's another story). Also, I may have to carpool with some of the people I work with, and that is something that is just NOT DONE with a coupe (for very long at any rate).

If it could be had, I'd go with a G35 6MT sedan. However, that's a little way's off from being affordable juuuust yet.

Ecotecpower: that would be very cool.

I have pretty much decided that the Stillen kit is out of the picture... it ruins the lines of the hood too much for my taste. I figure Vortec or the Greddy twins, and all the extra junk that comes with it from everythinginfiniti.com.

I have seen the Vortech kit on a g35 and fx35. Whether they were custom fit or not, I don't know.

I sold a 350 kit to a guy. He came back after the install to take me for a spin. The thing ran like a champ. You wouldn't be disapointed. Not a chance!

I hope not

It's either that, or a G6 GTP in 18 more months.

Dear God no...just save for a year or two used G35 before settleing for a psyedo Grand Am. Trust me drive a loaded G6 then the G35. The G35 is simply the best all around car out now. very well balanced as a sports car, luxury car, and practical car.

If I can get a wholesale price on a new G6, Id buy it. They're light years ahead of the N-body... I've owned 4 and I used a G6 when I had to get my car fixed a while ago... Trust me, there's no comparison.

I do like the G35, no question, but, auction prices are a little steep on the 04+, so I may wait

By time your ready to buy. 03's will be pretty cheap. Thats what I plan to do. After my cav. is paid off in october i'm going to save up for a while then get a coupe

Yea... I've seen them go as low as $22,000 here, but they had over 180,000 miles. I'm really thinking I'd buck the car pool, and go with the coupe, but I'm not sure yet.

Question: do they not require 89 gas?
