Hey guys I got rid of my cav a few weeks back and I've been looking for another car. I stopped in at a dealer and saw they had a special on a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS with 58k miles. I test drove it and fell in love with it. I wanted a couple of opinions before i went and bought it.
1) It's an auto with the manual overdrive. Does it really slow the car down that much?
2) They wank 14k for it. Is that too much for the car fully loaded with leather, moonroof and power everything?
3) Just checking but the GTS is supercharged right?
4) Anyone have any idea what an automatic GTS runs on the quarter mile?
there is no automatic transmission available for the GTS only a 6 speed. only the GT offers the auto and TRD has a supercharger available for the dealer to install but does not come stock.
14gs for a car with 58k miles? wow, i would look for something different bc u could find something better and cheaper
yeah 14K does seem pretty high. But then again thats what the dealership was asking for my prelude and i talked em down to 10K.

Wrong, there's plenty of automatic GT-S's out there. I would HIGHLY advise against buying one, because part of getting maximum output out of the 2ZZ engine is letting it sing at high RPMs, which a 4 speed auto won't let you do.

thank you...you beat me to it.
also...keep this in mind. you WILL have to put premium gas in it(no exceptions)...and it'll take significant work to lower the compression to a safe level if you ever want to boost it. the compression is high for a 4banger...11.5:1. definitely not a good idea for boost.
my friend has a 2000 auto gt-s and o have driven it many of times. its fast and a formula shifting
..another thing. An auto is not always slower than a stick shift, infact, most auto cars shift faster than a human can. its all about the gears.
i wouldnt get an auto GTS. look for one in 6-speed thats the way to go.

if the vehicle is being purchased for a daily driver, i can understand purchasing an automatic. if it's a V8 that's making obscene amounts of power, i can understand purchasing an automatic. if, however, it's a 4banger "fun" car, i cannot see purchasing an automatic. in the case of anything with a 2ZZ-GE, it must be a manual...or that motor is going to waste.
well it looks like I found a silver 6spd for the same price so I may be looking into that one, the other car i had in mind was an 03-04 tiburon 6spd for around the same price. which car is better for the price?
I personally would rather have a celica then a tibby. Not hating on the tibbys because they are nice. Just my personal pref
plus toyotas reliability is hard to top.
