oh and DO NOT under any circumstances act excited about the deal
act like you could get a better deal elsewhere
and make sure to point out any flaws or something you "dont like"
take someone with you and basically just talk about that kinda stuff
works good that way

whos to say thats a good deal? for all we know it could have 60,000 miles, rough shape, never been waxed, etc. We need more info.

If everything (miles, condin) is normal, then i'd say 20 is OK. I'd tell em your offer 17k and its a done deal.

the car is brand new, if anything is wrong with it they have to fix it. if it has a dent they fix it, any kind of problem they fix it, and it has a warrenty. Since it is a 2004 adn they have had it for 2 years already, they probably can't go any lower than twenty conidering the car is how much brand new. like 27-30,000. So basically you are asking them to sell you a lets just say teh car is 27,000. You want to give them 17,000 for a 27,000 car. YOUR NUTS!!!! It won't work and they will probably just dust you off considering that you don't really want the car. If they have had the car for this long, trust me, they can wait longer untill somebody gives them what they want. Alot of people have a pre-conceived notion that car dealers will sell them the car for what ever the heck they ask for and just drop everything just to please the customer. They don't and most likely won't. there is always sombody else out there that is looking at the same car, and is willing to pay what you are not.

It could be a decent deal. I've seen a few 04's in that price range. Definitely run a carfax on the car. I bought my 02 cav and it wasn't even a year old when I got it and it had been wrecked 2 times already. I wouldn't have bought it if I knew that. It only had a few thousand miles on it so I never really thought it would have been wrecked...

If I was looking for a GTO I'd actually spend the extra and get an 05 just for the LS2 and the ram air hood. I'd imagine thats what most people do and why you can find 04's cheap, and just not because it's a year older.

If you had 17k in cash on the table, I think they would be more than happy to give it up to you.

Just becasue you walk in with 17,000 cash doesn't mean that you are gonna get it. Your not gonna get anymore special attention to yourself than the next guy who walks in with 17.00, and want to finance. Dealership do not want people to pay cash for the simple fact that they don't make anymoney when you pay cash. They want you to finance the car through the bank so that they can make money. Paying in cash doesn't mean anything now days when it comes to a dealership. If you are selling your car for 12,000 and some guy comes up to you and offers you 5,000 cash becuase you have had the car for sale for 4 months and he knows you want to get rid of it are you gonna to it and take 7,000 less than what you originally want. I don't think so. Dealerships work the same way. CASH DON'T MEAN JACK.

Their's a big difference between offering someone 17k cash for a 20k car and offering 5k for a 12k car. What are you getting so uptight about? He doesn't even have 17k They might deal because they will have to pay taxes on what cars they have soon. You might be able to get it for 18-18.5k

Money talks bull@!#$ walks.

a leftover 04. . yeah baby.. go in try and get it for 19k. I think if they have 20k on it I am betting they aren't going to go any lower.. 20k for a brand new one. is a smoking deal. I have read about people getting 22k for a 04 trade in to go to an 05. . .yeah I know a lot of factors in that but still buy it you will love it and the good thing over an 05 is you will be able to tune it..

the gto was a sad sad design and no one wants them offer 17out the door. dont pay over 20out the door auto will make you sick... go to look at something else they have and let them make you look at the gto. thats what i did. my 04 had 8miles on it in april 05no one bought or drove it. told them i wanted an 02wrx. sticker was 27k paid 22. put 5down on top of that. if i paid all cash they wanted 23,500.

one dealership got talked down to finance an 01explorer for me with no option to pay off fo 8200 over a two years with a sticker of 14500 offered 9cash and they wouldnt take it.... shaaaaaaaady
