Third gen. F-body questions 305-350
Tuesday, December 27, 2005 2:29 PM
OK so, my friend and I are doing a motor swap on his 1991 firebird w/ 305 TBI. We are putting in a carbureted SBC 350 w/ flat top pistons and camel-hump heads. We are using a turbo 350 transmission. Now, the intake manifold gasket dosent match up w/ the heads so does anyone have any ideas on this? Are there any problems I should watch out for when doing the motor swap? It seems pretty easy since its carbureted.

Also, I am installing KYB AGX struts on it, I have searched on thirdgen.org for install instructions w/ no results (I think I suck at searching). Anyone know where instructions are? I have done springs and shocks on my Cav like 5 times, I am assuming it is similar. Thanks in advanvce for any suggestions!

you wrote this out in a confusing way

either your heads dont match up with the intake

or

the gasket is wrong.

the swap is pretty simple. youl have to run some sort of fuel regulator cause your electric fuel pump is way to high psi for a carb. or u can modify the take for a mechanical pump.

the turbo 350 is shorter then the 700-r4 you have now so youll new new crossmember and a longer driveshaft. u can buy some kit for it, im not sure where though.

thats all a can think of off the top of my head.

The struts should be a straight swap. If you guys can get that motor swapped the struts in front and shocks in back should be cake. The rear seat I think has to come out and the carpet pulled toward the front of the car to get to the top bolts on the rear shocks. Been awhile since I did those on the 91 TA I used to have.

The 87 and later blocks used different heads than the 86 and earlier blocks so make sure you have the gaskets for an 87 and later block.....
