The next-generation Skyline GT-R, a high-performance sports car, will be sold as an Infiniti in the United States, say two Nissan Motor Co.
The current generation is sold under the Nissan brand in Japan. Company executives have been debating whether to sell it in America as a Nissan or an Infiniti.
The most recent GT-R concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The production model will be shown at the Tokyo show in 2007.
The vehicle will be either a 2008 or 2009 model with a sticker price of about $65,000. They say Nissan has targeted annual U.S. sales of about 1,500.
The automaker showed only the car's exterior at the Tokyo show and has not said much about the powerplant. But one source says the Skyline GT-R will have all-wheel drive and two turbochargers, and produce more than 400 hp.
Some company executives fought to put a Nissan nameplate on the GT-R in the United States because it is known as a Nissan globally. The car appears in many popular racing video games in the United States, such as Sony PlayStation's Gran Turismo.
Some studies show that the expected clientele does not want to shop for such a high-end vehicle at a Nissan dealership.
Infiniti dealer John Capps says the Infiniti dealer group has been lobbying for the GT-R. Capps, owner of Plaza Motor Co. in St. Louis, and former chair of the Infiniti dealer council, says "it would be a wonderful halo car."

i read about this over a year and a half ago when they were the concept models. i'd rather want to see the nissan badge over the infiniti, only that its nissan lol you gotta love the tailights, its sooo awesome...cant say much about the front....its aggressive but plain.
yea down to the tiniest detail....why cant the infiniti group just sell the cars at their dealorships but have the car remain nissan-everything on it? grant it infiniti is a branch from nissan-luxury side, and ppl already know of it, why not make it easier for everyone and keep the car with its nissan stuff and sell it at a "higher-end' lot like infiniti?
booo, i wanted it as a nissan
although i just want it. a lot. and if theyre only expecting to sell 1500 of them, theni dont htink it really matters whether it is sold as an infiniti or not. the 1500 people who are going to buy this already know about it and will have them preordered anyway. its not like some shcmo is gonna go in to buy a M45 or something and go hmm, ill take this infinti skyline thing
mmmmmmm, I can't wait. That last picture is my current desktop right now. I am afraid to see what kind of price tags it will have on it though.
Have a good one,
Justin

Nevermind, totally overlooked that part.

I'd like to see it as a Nissan as well... If people are willing to pay 65,000 bones for a Chevrolet, maybe the Nissan nameplate will have a chance... Either way, that's a damn nice car...
I don't really care if they sell it as an Infiniti or as a Nissan the only difference is the badge. In North America, though, it makes more sense to sell it as an Infiniti. What's the point of having a premium brand if you sell your best under your cheaper brand.
its nissan thats why
lol it goes back into tradition since it came out long long ago, and the first gt-r badge was introduced on the nissan r32(correct me), the 'Godzilla' car, during its time. if i had 65k i'd get it for the nissan logo and the gt-r badge-and i rarely buy items based on logos
.....
i don't really like the front end, but the rest of the car is nice from what i can see. glad they kept the tails. my only question is-does that not have door handles? or can i just not see them? oh, also wish they would've sold it as a nissan since that's how everyone already knows them as.

I cant wait until these get here. I work at a infinti dealer
From what the GM said we'll be getting a new G sedan, a new SUV, a new coupe(hopefully the skyline) and then a convertible

what chevy are people paying 65,000 for ?????????????
there isnt 1 chevy at that price
and if your thinking the corvette , its not a chevy corvette , the corvette is to chevy , as saturn was to gm (before they took over)
if they lable the GTR as a nissan , the people that would be more inclined to by a sentra for their daughter , or a altima/maxima for the wife
I think they should keep this a nissan....the people who are going to be buying this car already know what there buying...theres not ganna be any people who are just going to go to a dealership and be like oh look at that, people buying this are going to be going to dealerships saying i want the skyline.....keep it a nissan...
i just won this car in project gotham racing 3! To bad its slow in the game.
But that car looks hotttttttt

Now I just have to wait for my @sshold of a dad to croak and leave my all his filthy money and it will be mine. Oh, yes, when he dies it will be mine.....
Shame he has nobody left in his family to give his money too.
im sorry thats ugly, i like the old style better...
Front end is ugly as hell.
The only thing I'm not too happy about is the "Skyline" name will be dropped in favor of just GT-R. Skyline was just a cool name for a sports coupe. I used to own a 1979 280ZX and was pretty horrified to learn it was known as a "Fairlady" in Japan. The short car names seem to be the lateest trend.
