Three friends/aquaintances of my wife and I who each own a Kia have had problems with their safety systems. Her one coworker got into 2 accidents with her Kia Rio and both times the air bag failed to deploy. Her other coworker got into an accident and once again the airbag(s) didn't deploy. Over the weekend my wife's friends husband got ran off the road and landed in a ditch in a brand new Kia Rio and the air bag failed to deploy and the seatbelt broke and he went flying into the steering wheel and ended up with bruised ribs and sternum. We've told them all to report it to the NTSB seeing how the local Kia dealership is really awful on warranty work and try to weasel out of it as much as possible.
It's a KIA.. Do you even have to ask?

How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
that's why id never buy Kia/hyundai
cheaper prices, must be saving money somehow
daewoo's made by the same company. personally, i wouldn't buy one either, but i know people that swear by the cars. of course, they also get a new one every 2 years so that doesn't really say much about the car quality.

Um Hyundais safety and Kias are fine.. They bought Kias cheap ass car that was pretty much put out there for people who couldn't afford to buy most of the new cars out there..
Also you are judging them on 2 incidents.. I suppose I should say WTF is up with cavaliers because on my one 03 half the front end was torn off and the air bags never deployed.. or my 03 LS sport where the passenger side air bag deployed late.
Had to change sig because some dickhead is mad it went 1 letter over size

Actually 4 accidents with 3 different Kia's, 2 Rio's and 1 Sportage.
Its a Rio..... I think my local golf course has larger Go-Carts than a Rio...
if the bag didnt deploy , there had to be a reason
most newer cars have to be over a certian MPH for them to pop , i think like in the 30 mph range
the older air bag systems used to pop at low speeds and repair costs were to high for the amount of damage
plus it has to be a direct frontal impact for them to go off
the broken seat belt accident is the 1 i would have reported

So you're judging it by 1 decent SUV in there line and there 3 @!#$ box cheap cars.. All cars have defects.

My Sunfire had the airbags deploy for no reason at all... not once, but 3x.
If it's not network news, it's probably the truth getting out.
Some people are like slinkies: Not really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them
down a flight of stairs.
Actually ... they are pretty good at warrenty work. If you are on vacation and your car needs to be serviced, they will put you up in a hotel, untill your car is fixed. I mean @!#$, id get that car, 10 years 100,000 miles. You would be pretty much set untill you were forced into buyiing a new car. Not to mention, your monthy payments would be low, you could save up for another car
Doesnt sound like a bad winter beater to me, hhhrrmmm

Well EXCUSE ME FOR KEEPING THE SUBJECT LINE SHORT. Jesus @!#$ Christ
There's a reason for the 100 year 1 million mile warranty. /sarcasm
When I worked at Benz, we had a $90K 2003 Mecedes-Benz S500 side airbags deploy on the highway.
Few months later we had an $120K 04 SL55 with pass airbag deployed later a 00 E-class with both fronts deployed.
Personally I hate airbags, I believe they cause more damage then protect from what I gathered.

Sykeeok, Actualy KIA is owned by HYUNDIA and DEAWOO is imported thru an agreement with G.M. Hence the AVEO and the reason that DEAWOO's are no longer sold new in the U.S.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
id say a HUGE question is what year.
any hyundai pre 2003 = cacka
any kia pre 2004/05 = cacka
in 03 hyundai completely changed.
then i guess in 04 or so they bought kia
anythign before that tho, u have no reason to complain. everyone knew hyundai/kia pre 03's are garbage

What year kia rio? Cause there is a safety transit lockout on thr 02+ Rios and sportages and Rio cinco's. It was noticed that in transit some airbag would deploy comming on and off the truck or boat. Turn out some of the censors were too sensitive. This was supposed to be fixed bt the dealership as the cars came in. So i would blame it on the dealership. I bet that damn lockout is still there.
Hyundai is currently several notches better than Kia even though they own Kia. The new Sonata is a pretty damn good car for the money, I tested one a few weeks ago and am thinking of buying a V-6 one in the summer. It was very close in quality to the inlaws '05 Accord V-6.
My folks have owned 3 new kia's. they had a 2003 spectra and sedona and more recently, a 2005 spectra. The 03 spectra was very plain and the fit and finish wasnt perfect but for the price couldnt be beat. the sedona van we got was an ex with all power options and all creature comforts and it was one hell of a mini van, very well put together, good power, and top notch reliability and safety. The 2005 spectra we have is takes top honors of our 3 kia's.
the fit and finish is more than comporable to the hondas and toyotas and even that of more expensive cars. The overall quality has been superb. my family is very happy with the cars.
to say that they are better than the new hondas wouldnt be fair, but for the price, they sure give them a run for the money. the 05 spectra makes my cavalier look like a piece of crap finish and overall quality wise.
funny how hyundai just beat out toyota for the highest overall quality award for 2006. hyundai owns kia.
**Wow, you know what? One t ime, I got a phone call, from a telemarketer! And they were like OMGWTFBBQ do you wanna buy car insurance? And I was like LMAOTTYLOMGWTF no! This ish is crazy!!!**
My Cousin Had An 04 Kia Rio, It Spent More Time At The Dealership For Warranty Work Than On The Road.
<~~~~PWN3D!!
Just be glad they aren't having the problems some of the newer (mk4+) golfs are having. The airbags are deploying at random on teh passenger side only.. it's common too.

um, both of you are wrong. Hyundai/Kia are in no way related to Daewoo. That's as ignorant as saying Ford and GM are the same company...but Chrysler has an agreement to import them. And lastly Last I checked there have been no consumer complaints against Daewoo ever. The cars are 100% solid. The only bad thing to happen to them was the company's president stole all of their money and ran into hiding. Thus causeing GM to buy them.
And Daewoos are STILL sold in the U.S. to this very day. They are called The Suzuki Forenza, Reno, and Verona and all of them are totally reliable and well built.
get your facts straight.
