The new winter beater

Might be picking this up for a new winter beater, and something to drive around when my car is being worked on:

The only thing good about Mustangs... gotta love the exhaust tone, bone stock

I can pick it up for $7500... just have to secure some financing...

What all of them said, plus:

Who spends $7500 on a beater?

Not bad, they are fun, I love RWD cars in the snow.

The V6 sound is nicer than the 4cyl sound, you have to admit that.

And... if you could get a 2002 Mustang with 33,000 miles, garage kept (summer and winter), and driven by a female non-smoker for $7500, you can't say a lot of people would pass that up, especially if they were in need of a daily driver.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=beater

A 2002 V6 Mustang with 33,000 miles doesn't fall into ANY of those definitions, and I think that they pretty much cover the whole idea of a beater.

$7500 is probably about what your car is worth, give or take. That is definitely NOT beater-esque.

^^^ what he said.. Beaters usually cost 1-2K at the most! Since you're only going to be driving it in the winter, the only thing you'd normally care about is how well the heater is going to work. And FWD is a lot safer in the winter for sure.

wow... a mustang for a winter beater. and to spend 7,500 on a winter beater.. i wish i was that rich to buy a sports car for a winter beater and still insure the vehicle.. i just got a cherokee with 4 wheel drive for 800 and cheap insurance. couldnt see spending that kinda cash on something to drive in the snow and possibly wreck. good luck with your mustang though, they are pretty nice cars.

Ugh... guess you guys missed the joke.

I need to pick up a new daily driver. I turbo'd the Cav, and I'll be investing a lot of money and time into a new engine and a lot of other mods coming down the road for it. I'm also moving down to Texas (not a lot of snow there) so I'm not too worried about that. I need a reliable daily driver to get me back and forth to work in Houston... this is it...

find a cheaper beater, one you don't have to finance

I make almost $50,000 a year, having a cav and a mustang, with insurance, will only cost me about $550 a month, thats really not that bad of a hit on my finances, plus its something I could sell later if I wanted/needed to.

You'll probably drive it for about a month and wish you had gotten a gt. IMO if I were to take out a loan I'd spend the extra money and get a gt. I've seen a few 99 gt's for around that money.

If you're just looking for a driver I guess the v6 will do....
Re: The new winter beater
Monday, December 05, 2005 7:40 AM
^ No, since if I bought a GT for the same amount, I'd end up paying almost twice as much for insurance, on a 7 year old car, its just not worth it to me. All I want this for is something to get me around Houston, reliably, while I work on the Cavalier, and still have money left over to dump into the cav.

Because I don't need a V8, I need a reliable car to get me around Houston.

Check around for insurance. I have a firebird formula(v8) the difference between a regular firebird (v6) and a formula was 12 dollars a month.

It does seem like a decent deal for the money, I'd never own a v6 though...
