was wanting to get an opinion from some of the cobalt owners that browse this forum. was looking at a black ss/sc and I LOVE THIS CAR!!! my only question is i wonder how durable the dash along with other misc. int. parts are, because the dash has almost a plastic feel. have anyone had any problems out of their interior yet?

i dont own one, but my mech has brought one home for the past month and nothing has happened to his dash yet
After checking one out at the dealership the plastic actually impressed me.
I love it actually. don't be fooled though it's still tacky looking cheap plastic (especially in the non-SS models). But the fit is light years ahead of the j-body and it gives off a "feel" of quality. But not yet up par with current competitors, well i take that back it's 100,000 times nicer than a Neon's interior.

I'm a member over at CobaltSS.net, and I haven't heard anything about any serious interior problems. The only issue has been with the sunroof switch trim, which has a tendancy to come off on some cars, but it can easily be fixed by the dealer under warranty.
As for interior quality and design, the Cobalt is right near the top of the class. The plastics are solid and fit together well, nothing creaks or rattles the way the J-body interior does. The leather is about the best quality you can get for the price, and there have been no issues with "cracks" in the dash like the Cavaliers used to do. Its a very nice package overall.

I have nothing wrong with that...and that seems weird. My sunroof switch has broke twice. No creaks or rattles, but my Cavalier didn't either till about a year later. The Leather is done by Recaro so if it does sag or fall apart that's not so much GM's fault...but so far all is good, as it should be on $600 a peice seats. A great little car yes. the best? well it's no Lexus, HeHe. But for a change Wesmanw put out a quality post...it's definately "near" the top (and since we love to tell him he's a moron most of the time, i'll actually commend him for being an intelligent voice in this thread. Bravo Wes.)

Don't get me wrong, the new Cobalts are great. My friend recently bought a Cobalt, and I thought the interior looked like of .....cheap. I didn't like the fact that there was no center armrest, and the stock shiftknob looked really cheap. I like the interior of the Cavaliers better, but thats just my opinion. I've never see the interior of the SS, so I don't know it its any different.

With it's cheap rough hard plastic everywhere you can strike a match just about anywhere. There isn't any "soft feel" plastic anywhere.
Ergononmics is good and so are the creature comforts with gauge layout.
The "leather " on SS looks, smells and feels vynyl.

Actually, the Lexus of compacts is the IS... it is considered a compact sedan, after all.

It never ends with you does it. Rough hard plastic?? Goddamn its not made freakin sandpaper you idiot, its typical interior plastic. And yes, the seats are real leather, despite what you like to say in order to make the car look bad. What do you want them to do, cover the dash in leather?? Its a $21K car moron, get a grip.
I'm sure you'll be creaming all over the new Si, because it has "softtouch" plastics here and there, even if its the ugliest damn interior in its class. You ought to change your name, all you do is bash GM products anymore.

The Cobalt interior is on par with cars from 5 years ago... It's not bad, but it's not good... For a rental car, its not bad...
This forum is getting just as bad as the VS lol
i love the way my dash looks, ther two tone is really nice. i haven't had any problems with it either.

amen. it IS other cars. and seems if you talk about another car here you get every cobalt nut hanging troll in the universe trying to throw their ignorant 2 cents in. you have a whole web-site to praise the dated technology and crappy bulit j-body's. let the owners that have paid their dues...suffered through the ownership of their fun yet wretched little j-body...and have managed to move on and into something better or different.
what many don't realize is 90% of us in here, talking up imports are not just random import nut swingers. we WERE j-body owners! and very active members at one time. we've moved on. some of us who hated imports have now learned it's not imports that sucked but the owners of some of those imports. Hondas turned out to actually be pretty cool. and Celicas are a blast to drive.
I laugh at any troll that flames me or others in this particular forum. they were us a few years ago. 90% of them are newbies to me anyway, their opinons matter nothing to me. I'm pretty much the last of a seriously shrinking segment of JBO....original members. We've all grown up and gotten past "honduhs suck" mentality.

Yep, and some of us old timers are not always J-owners by choice....
I do like the Cobalt, but then again,I am not a nut swinger either.....
If I do get one, it would be a LS with a few ops to keep it cheap, and pretty easy to
pay off, and do what I want with it....
I wouldn't waste money on the SS's because if I wanted sporty...there is much better
out there....
Then again-I wouldn't waste more than 20 grand for a new car because cars
tend to be a big waste of money over that price anyaways....there are many other
things to enjoy in life..like beer, for instance...
Jam-it's anyways nice to talk to grown ups once in a while, isn't it?
It's nice to have a much larger view than just Js.....
